Things to Consider when Hiring a Maid

So you've decided to hire a maid, have you? That's really a very big decision. You're making the choice to open your home up to a total stranger, to air your dirty laundry, literally. You want to be very careful when you choose the right person for the job. Always check out their references. Even if you don't want to take the time, it may pay off in the long run. Remember, this person will be in your home, probably without you there.

Of course, one of the first things you have to address after making the decision to hire a maid is how often you will be able to afford her services. Most people choose to have a maid come in once or twice a week to clean. Most of these maids only do the basic, everyday cleaning chores associated with housekeeping. You know the ones, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, washing clothes, cleaning the bathrooms, and other mundane tasks that have to be repeated over and over. It is important to establish exactly what chores you expect the maid to perform. Some don't do heavy cleaning or spring cleaning work. Some may refuse to wash windows. Always be clear what exactly you want done before you hire them.

You should also determine what days you want the maid to work. Set these days down as when you expect the maid to be there. If it is Monday and Thursday, then she should be there on those days. Also find out that if you were to need her on special occasions, would she be available?

Try to get an idea of the maid's personality when you interview her. If you have kids, ask her how she feels about children. If you have a three year old, and it bothers her to have to clean the kitchen floor every morning after your child has eaten, then she might not last long.

If you check out the references and pay strict attention to your new maid, you will both be well satisfied, Don't be afraid to point out something if it isn't what you expected or want. Tell her what you want or expect. That way there won't be any surprises or disappointments. After all, you are hiring a maid to make your home life and chores a little easier. Just don't expect a maid to do everything. After all, you couldn't. If you could, you wouldn't need a maid.
