Things to Do the Day After Christmas

Stephanie Manning
With all the joy and excitement from Christmas Day, very few people can figure out what to do that day after Christmas. Most people are either tired from all the hard work they put in to making Christmas Day the best ever, or they have a mess to clean up. Others just don't know what to do the day after Christmas.

The day after Christmas can be one of the best relaxing days of the year if all goes well. If you have company that is leaving, get them packed and on the road safely. After they leave there are quite a few things you can do the day after Christmas. Most people like to take the day to relax and spend time with family. If you have guests that aren't planning to leave the day after Christmas, then by all means include them. Gets some popcorn and pile up on the couch, and watch some of your favorite movies. Make it a winter-relaxation day. You won't have to worry about cooking since you should have plenty of leftovers from Christmas day! Take the day to spend with family and reflect on the wonderful things of Christmas!

If you don't care to sit and lounge around all day then take some time to play games with the kids! But together puzzles, assemble some of the new gifts, and take time to sit and play with the children. Ask them what they liked best about Christmas day! Who they were excited to see and what made it so special. Take time to reflect with your children.

If you are not the type of person to stay inside and relax all day, then go out on the town. The day after Christmas usually brings some great sales! It's also the best time to get yard decorations, and Christmas ornaments for the next year and unbelievably low prices. Most gift baskets and special gifts that are sold only at Christmas time will be on sale. This is a great time to stock up on gifts for the New Year. Keep in mind the birthdays, anniversaries and all the other gift giving occasions.

If you aren't up for shopping then use the day to go see relatives that you didn't get to see on Christmas Day! Just because it's the day after Christmas doesn't mean that folks aren't still in the Christmas spirit!

And last but not least, if you don't want to get out and you don't want to stay in and lounge, there is always that Christmas tree that is waiting to be taken down. Since the children are occupied with their new toys, they are less likely to get in the way. Send them to their play area and take some personal, quiet time and take down the tree. Pack up your Christmas ornaments, wrapping paper, table clothes, dishes and everything else Christmas related. If you are wore out and don't want to see Christmas for another year, this is the best way to get it out the door and gone for another 11 months until things start popping back up with Santa on them.

My son's birthday is the day after Christmas so we always have something fun to do. Most of the time it's just mellowing out at the house and celebrating as a family. :)
