Custer Week 2007 will be filled with fun and educational activities for the whole family to enjoy. Following is a list of things to do in celebration of General Custer and Michigan's Civil War history.

Saturday, September 29th

For information on the Civil War Encampment at the Navarre-Anderson Trading Post, 3775 North Custer Rd. please call 734-240-7780.

From 1:00 to 4:00 pm: Kick off Custer Week with a Civil War Roundtable Discussion at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

Between 2:00 and 4:00 pm: Attend a book signing by Troy D. Harmon, author of Lee's Real Plan at Gettysburg and Gettysburg National Parks ranger and historian, at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

At 5:00 pm: Join Troy D. Harmon as he presents Custer at Gettysburg and stay for the opening of the Civil War Exhibit at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

Sunday, September 30th

From 10:00 am until 4:00 pm: Visit Soldiers & Sailors Park to view a colorful hot air balloon, listen to General George Custer tell of his Civil War aeronaut escapades and observe the Michigan Cavalry History Association's living history demonstration.

At 12 noon, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm: See President Lincoln give the Gettysburg Address and hear about the Michigan citizens who served during the Civil War as the Michigan National Guard Historian host their Heritage Outreach Presentation at the Sawyer Homestead, 320 East Front St.

At 1:00 pm: Observe the wreath-laying ceremony at the Custer Family Plat at Woodland Cemetery.

1:30 pm: Discover Woodland Cemetery's rich history on the Woodland Cemetery Walking Tour.

Monday, October 1st through Friday, October 5th

10:30 am to 1:00 pm: See Andy Amato's Custer & the Civil War Art Exhibit at Mainstreet, Inc., 118 East Front St.

Monday, October 1st

7:00 pm: Join Gettysburg and Civil War historian William Gower as he presents Custer and His Wolverines at East Cavalry Field on Day 3 at Mainstreet, Inc., 118 East Front St.

Tuesday, October 2nd

7:00 pm: Sit in on David Finney's presentation of Photographic Images of Famous Americans 1840-1860 at Dorsch Memorial Library, 18 East First St.

Wednesday, October 3rd

7:00 pm: Witness George Gouth's presentation on the Spencer Repeating Rifle at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

Thursday, October 4th

7:00 pm: Hear JoMarie Soszynski as she speaks on Victorian dress in The Mode of Victorian Dress: Why Would You Dress that Way? at the Sawyer Homestead, 320 East Front St.

Friday, October 5th

6:00 - 8:00 pm: Dine with the Generals at Monroe Street Grill, 2 West Front St. No reservations necessary.

Saturday, October 6th

From 10:00 am until 12:00 noon: Attend a book signing with Civil War historian Kent Masterson Brown, author of Cushing of Gettysburg, The Civil War in Kentucky, and Retreat from Gettysburg: Lee, Logistics, and the Pennsylvania Campaign at the Book Nook, 42 South Monroe St.

From 10:00 am - 4:00 pm: Meet Union and Confederate officers including General Custer (USA), General Grant (USA), General Reynolds (USA), General Sheridan (USA), General Sturgis (USA) General Lee (CSA), and General Rosser (CSA) at the Civil War Encampment at the Sawyer Homestead, 320 East Front St.

12:00 noon: Listen to author and historian Tom Carhart as he presents Custer at West Point & Gettysburg at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

1:30 and 3:00 pm: Hear the Dodworth Saxhorn Band perform at Loranger Square Pavilion.

2:30 pm: Learn the identity of the recipient of the Best History Teacher Award at Loranger Square.

3:30 pm: Listen as Civil War historian Kent Masterson Brown presents Lee's Retreat, General Custer's chase of General Lee from Gettysburg, at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 126 South Monroe St.

5:30 pm: Attend the Gathering of Eagles dinner program at the VFW #1138, 400 Jones Ave.

Enjoy music by the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, hear Civil War Generals speak, and listen to Libbie's Story, Elizabeth Custer's recounting of her life with General George Custer.

Sunday, October 7th

Attend the 1864 Wedding of George Custer and Elizabeth Bacon at the historic First Presbyterian Church on First St. on Loranger Square, which will be followed by a Grand Wedding Reception.
