Things to Do When in Erie, Pennsylvania

Erie, Pennsylvania is a beautiful destination on Lake Erie. Erie is close to Cleveland, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh. With it's close proximity to these major cities it is an ideal place for a stay cation, the new alternative to a vacation.

The city of Erie is quite lovely in some areas despite its not so marvelous nicknames, such as Dreary on Erie, and the mistake on the lake. I have traveled to Erie many times and I always find many entertainment and recreational opportunities awaiting me.

Of course the main tourist attraction to discuss is the Flag ship, Niagara, or otherwise known as The US Brig Niagara. Sometimes Erie is referred to as the Flagship City.

Another attraction worth mentioning is The Erie philharmonic which has been in continuous existence since its opening. You will enjoy great music, and a full chorus . Erie is also known for its Erie Arts Museum, which is the host of a popular blues and jazz summer concert series. You will also find really lovely folk art, at the cities main art gallery.

Erie Pennsylvania is also home of three lovely well preserved light houses, for lighthouse lovers,you can view these beautiful structures without the expense of driving to the Atlantic Ocean! You will also want to visit the amazingly beautiful Presque Isle State Park. Fourteen miles of pristine south shore beaches await your discovery. Lake Erie is not great for finding sea shells, but you will find some unique and lovely rocks along the beach. Presque Isle is within close proximity to Misery Bay on Lake Erie. You will enjoy the surf and the fishing on Lake Erie , just to name a few of their fun activities.

Erie Pennsylvania offers many recreational activities that are sure to please. If you enjoy racing stop by the motor sports complex. Erie offers great gambling opportunities also. If you appreciate a fine bottle of wine, Erie is the place for you! You can visit a number of vineyards and observe the grapes growing, which is a beautiful sight, as well as sample some of the delicious vintages available for purchase.

Erie offers a lovely city attitude, as well as a sprawling country side that offers the view of the lake for as far as the eye can see. It is absolutely gorgeous in contrast with the Allegheny Mountain range. There are many forms of night life entertainment available in Erie as well, from comedy clubs, to gambling, and bars.

Erie is a family friendly town filled with activities sure to please kids and adults alike. You will want to check out the art on display through out the city. We loved the artistic frogs! The family will enjoy the amusement park, or the Erie Zoo. Admission prices are affordable, so you can take the entire family.
