If you're reading this article, you might think, "Is this a joke? There is nothing to do in Gregory, South Dakota." And you're right. I know first hand because I had to spend about six hours in the town and find my own entertainment. Why I was stuck in Gregory, South Dakota isn't important...what's important is that I needed to entertain myself in this small town.

Gregory, South Dakota is a town located in south central South Dakota and has a population of about 1,150. It's located off of US Highway 18, between Dallas, SD and Burke, SD.

Pheasant Hunting in Gregory, South Dakota

If you visit Gregory, South Dakota, this is what most "tourists" do-pheasant hunt. I do not hunt, but this is probably Gregory's biggest attraction. The city boasts of having a large pheasant population.

Nightlife in Gregory South Dakota

Like bowling or drinking in a bar? If that's your idea of "nightlife," then you'll probably have a good time in Gregory. Gregory has a bowling alley and a few bars, although I didn't visit any of them. Hey, it was during the morning/early afternoon!

Kill Time at the Park

On the edge of Gregory sits a park. For a small town park, it's quite large. There's a walking trail that takes you up to a bluff and loops back around. There's some picnic tables, restrooms, a swimming pool (it was closed because it's fall). It just was incredibly creepy. There was no one at the park except for me, I didn't see any cars pass. I was the only sign of life at the park. It was kinda scary. But, visiting the park is a way to kill time in Gregory, South Dakota.

Gregory Bakery & Coffee Shop

It's more bakery than coffee shop. That's okay though-I was thrilled they had a coffee shop in Gregory-I needed some caffeine to keep me awake in this town and I needed a spot to sit 'n kill time. They only offer a limited selection of drinks (cappuccinos and plain coffee), but they have plenty of flavored syrups from which to chose. Lots of pastries fill the display cases, but I didn't have any (too fattening). What I didn't like is that I stuck out like a sore thumb here. Everyone in the coffee shop knew I wasn't from 'round these parts and I got a lot of stares. I don't like that.

The B & F Variety Store

Bored out of my mind, tired of the park, and getting too hot sitting in the car led me to the B & F Variety Store in Gregory, South Dakota. I was sitting out in a parking spot outside the store, talking on my cell phone. The store owner kept walking out of the store and looking at me. Perhaps she was thinking I was staking out the place. So I went in to kill some time. This place reminded me of a cross between a Ben Franklin craft store and a drug store. It was cramped and crowded. Lots of overpriced "stuff"-from hair curlers to bolts of fabric to deodorant to cake decorating supplies. I didn't like feeling like I was being watched, so I left. But again, visiting the B&F Variety Store is something to do in Gregory, South Dakota.
