Things to Do in Indiana, Pennsylvania

Located in western Pennsylvania, Indiana is filled with history, culture and a large university, Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The town of Indiana is attracting more than just college students. The area is filled with fun activities that will have you busy all year long.

Located on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a historical museum. Located in Sutton Hall, an historic landmark itself, built in 1875, the museum features history and art. Also featured at various times during the year at the museum are exhibits that concentrate on the rich culture and diversity of the Indiana County region.

Before leaving the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus head over to north fifth street to check out a concert or broadway show at the Onstage Arts and Entertainment theatre. Previous headliners include: Trisha Yearwood, LeAnn Rimes, JoDee Messina and Kenny Logins. The small theatre allows the audience to feel as though they are part of the show.

The town of Indiana is also famous for being the hometown of Jimmy Stewart. Blocks from the college campus in downtown Indiana is the Jimmy Stewart museum. Inside fans of the Academy Award winning actor can see his Oscar statue along with films that are run at various times during the day. Jimmy Stewart's childhood home is within walking distance of the museum as is the original location of the hardware store his family owned where his father used to display Mr. Stewart's Academy Award.

Golf fans will find many beautiful places to practice their sport in Indiana County. Located in Indiana on Hamil Road is Meadow Lane Golf Course. This small town wonder boasts 18 holes, a driving range, putting green, pro shop and snack and beverage bar. The course is a par 70 and includes water on 13 of the 18 holes, making for a challenging game. Rates are around $24 per person for 18 holes of golf.

Before completing your adventure in Indiana, head to Hemlock Lake for a relaxing day by the water. Hemlock Lake covers 60 acres and is 33 feet at its deepest point. There are docks for boating, fishing and pavilions for eating lunch or taking a break from sunbathing.

One of the best things about Indiana is the small town feel with big city activities. Whether you are taking a stroll around campus or shopping in one of the many shopping centers, Indiana has something for everybody.
