According to Heidi Stevenson, lasik surgery could result in poor vision and prolonged pain. What is the procedure involved in lasik surgery? During lasik surgery the flap which is in the cornea of the eyes which are in the front, is cut using a laser and the tissues of the cornea, which are present below the flap are reshaped.

Kerry Solomon who is a well-known doctor studied lasik safety in the American Institute of cataract and surgery. According to All About Vision Dr. Soloman said that five percent of lasik surgery that are done have poor effects. The effects are poor vision and sometimes even blindness. There is a regular eye pain, dry eyes, various visual aberrations, and blurred vision. The surgeons consider patients who have good vision as a result of lasik surgery but they also have regular eye pain as a result of the lasik surgery. Around 49 percent of the people who undergo lasik surgery are suffering from dry eyes. It's because the surgery prevents the corneal nerves which are responsible for tear production. This is the most important and predictable trouble.

According to A FDA Center For Devices and Radiological Health,There are about 800,000 people who have lasik surgery every year. Around six percent of them have poor results which means around 40,000 people have ended up with worst results, weather it be pain in the eye or some other visual aberrations such as halos in light or double vision. There are many risks that are associated with this surgery and the FDA is busy investigating them. Lasik surgery was patented 20 years ago and the FDA has done nothing for all these years. The lasik machine was designed and got its approval 10 years before from the FDA.

Lasik is a business

Like any other business, lasik surgery is also a business industry. The main motto of lasik surgery is profit. The gain margin is absolutely enormous. Margaret MCDonald is a famous doctor who was once the chief of a medical journal called EyeWorld, which is an international journal for eye specialists. She says that it is just the start of lasik surgery and there is no absolute development in this field as of now. She also adds that doctors should be really open and honest while they are having an eye checkup for a patient and they must be telling the truth about the lasik surgery and its suboptimal effects on the patients. She says that the doctors should be honest enough to for a second opinion to the patient before doing the lasik surgery. She is not afraid to deliberately speak about the dishonesty that is present among the doctors today. Most of the eye specialists nowadays or specializing only in lasik surgery and the reason behind this is money and profit. By doing lasik surgery they are offering unnecessary and risky results to their patients and nothing more.
