La Miranda May Be Small but There Are Many Local Attractions

The Rand McNally map magnate, Andrew McNally, once owned the town of La Miranda, California. He quickly constructed a manufacturing plant and olive and fruit orchards. Soon there was a railroad station and a bustling business district that is still thriving today. La Miranda is a unique blend of excitement with small town values that makes it full of people and interesting things to do.

The Splash is La Miranda's regional aquatic sports complex offering swimming lessons and water aerobics all year around. There is also a water park, Buccaneer Bay. Buccaneer Bay is where the huge water slide is found. There is also a zero depth toddler area and a water fall. Team swimming events happen here as well. There is a Swim Store on the premises with swim suits, tanning lotion, floats and a variety of water fun toys and paraphernalia. There are many activities to occupy children as well as adults during a day trip here.

The La Miranda Theater is a popular local activity. It is a theater for the performing arts. There are musical performances and plays of Broadway performances. There are 95 performances each year that last two hours and play for two and a half weeks. There are several programs specifically for children. Each March there are several performances around a theme with big name stars in the genre. Concerts, musicals and musical performances are all included. There are also several "Phantom Projects" executed each year. These are specifically designed for a teen audience.

La Miranda Creek Park is the place to go in La Miranda, California for the classic park experience. Joggers, hikers and bikers are able to use the trails and picnickers can use the picnic area consisting of a number of tables, BBQ grills and pavilions. July brings "Stroll in the Park", a day at the park full of food booths, exhibits and musical entertainment. The 65 seat amphitheater and fire ring holds many performances through out the year.

La Miranda Regional Park is over 100 acres of land with lighted tennis and softball courts. The area is covered in large, towering trees and a lake. Golfers have a large golf course and Frisbee area. A swimming pool is available as well. Besides tennis and softball there is a lighted handball court and a basketball court. There are a number of different recreational programs offered to the public throughout the year.

The Griffith Observatory is 19 miles from La Miranda in Los Angeles. It is 1134 feet above sea level and gives panoramic views of the city and all its most important landmarks. There are also several exhibits on hand. The Wilder Hall of the Eye is an exhibit dedicated to the observation of the sky, the tools used for this type of observation and demonstrations of the techniques used. The Edge of Space Mezzanine exhibit showcases artifacts that have been found through space exploration and observation.

There is a gift shop on premises. The Griffith Observatory hosts several children's and schools events throughout the year.
