Things You Can Do that Last Summer Before College

Ways to Make Your Last Summer Together with Friends Something Special

Christopher Cacace
High School graduation can bring so many mixed feelings to a teenager. At first glance, surviving twelve years of school with your friends by your side makes for quite the celebration. Once this excitement subsides, you'll start to realize in a few short months all of you will be parting separate ways. Here are a few activities you can do to really make your last months together something to remember for years to come.

1. Go to a concert

Try to pick a band everyone will enjoy, perhaps one you've thought about seeing for a while now, and finally take the time to see them. Usually bands performing live are better than their CD recordings, but even if they end up sucking the experience of getting there, getting food or whatever else you choose to do makes for a great time.

2. Barbeque!

Everyone loves barbeques! Suddenly everyone becomes a chief; offering their knowledge on how long that chicken should stay on the grill or what to add to make the perfect burger. Find a nice place in a park, usually you're allowed to cook without having to pay a charge (and if you do it's only a few dollars). Set up a volleyball net, or simply toss a Frisbee at someone. Nothing beats a beautiful day under the sun.

3. Check out a beach.

This may be a little more difficult for some due to location, but a day at the beach can be the perfect temporary get-away for you and your friends. The fresh ocean air mixed with grainy sand between your toes can please just about anyone who sets foot on a beach, whether they want to swim, build a sand castle, dig a huge hole (which is actually quite popular) or simply take a nap. Who knows, you may even get a tan!

4. Road trip!

Time to pack up the ol' wagon and head out west! A road trip can really signify trust between you and your friends, by trusting them to decide on a location everyone can enjoy, and by letting everyone do their share of driving (one person driving can be fine too). This can lead to a nice vacation between all your friends, one full of shenanigans and great times on the road. It'll be one they'll certainly remember.

5. Pick up a sport.

Even if you're not one for sports, give it a shot why don't you? Find something everything can enjoy (My personal recommendation is Capture the Flag since I don't plan on growing up anytime soon) and get everyone together one night to play. Afterwards, get some ice cream, maybe as a treat from the losing team? This is a great idea, because perhaps you'll find a sport you really enjoy and can possible play in college in an intramural league.

6. Take lots of pictures!

This can be more of a guideline for all the activities I mentioned so far, but it can also be an activity all in its own. You'll certainly want to remember your hometown while you're at college, don't you? Take pictures of everything that you hold special, like your house, street, school, favorite places to hang out, and just your general town itself. Trust me, you'll want to look at these later. Be sure to get one of all your friends too!

I hope these ideas will entertain you and your friends in the last few months of summer. Just remember, you're not saying goodbye, you're only saying "See you later!"
