Day Camp or Sleep Away Camp
The first factor to consider is whether to send the children to a day camp or a sleep away camp. The day camps allow the kids to go to the camp during daytime hours in the local vicinity yet come home every day. As for the sleep away camps, these are usually a few weeks in length and are out of the local area. When choosing the best type of summer camp, parents should determine if they want the kids to come home every night, if the kids would be comfortable staying away from home for weeks at a time and what each camp offers their children.
Activities at the Summer Camp
Another important factor to consider is what types of activities the summer camp offers to the children. Some camps offer general activities such as sports, arts and crafts, cooking, outdoor activities, and more whereas others offer one or two specific activities such as baseball. It is important to choose a camp which offers activities that your child will enjoy, whether it be one specific activity or a wide range of them.
Cost
Cost is a vital factor for many parents to consider. Since most parents are on a budget these days and only have a set amount of money to spend on a camp of this type, it is important to look at the overall cost of sending the kids off to summer camp. The determining factor may in fact be the price of the summer camp as some parents may be able to afford a day camp yet not be able to swing the sleep away variety.
Attitude of the Child
Lastly, the attitude of the child towards attending a camp of this type must also be considered. If your child is hesitant to attend summer camp, perhaps pursuing alternate summer activities may be advisable. On the other hand, if your child is eager to go to summer camp, this may make the ultimate decision much easier in the end.
