What is going on in this country? What is it going to take for us to realize handguns are no good? Will anything change after the events that happened at Northern Illinois University and Virginia Tech?
Can anyone tell me what handguns in the hands of the general public are good for? I see the need for our police departments to bear these type of arms, but it makes no sense for the rest of us. Handguns are created and used to kill others. It's that simple. They are easy to conceal, they are easy to get a hold of, and they are easy to use.
Just ask the families of countless night clerks that have been killed by a criminal with a handgun. Or ask the parents of the girl that has been shot by a jealous boyfriend or enraged husband. Or even the friend that accidentally set of his dad's gun and killed his best friend. What are handguns good for?
I know the argument that is going to arise from this article and I will disagree with the arguments completely. I'm going to hear how guns are used for protection. I agree that handguns can be used for protection, but I feel there are better ways to secure and protect ones property without a handgun. I also feel if there were no handguns we wouldn't need one to protect ourselves and our families.
To me a better way to protect ones property is with a security or alarm system. In today's high tech world, home and auto security systems are improving daily. This isn't always going to stop a criminal, but it has been proven to detract them from choosing the one with a good system.
A rifle is another way that one can protect their home or property. What is the difference between a handgun and a rifle? My thoughts are that a rifle can't be slipped into a pocket and easily brought into a shopping center or school without someone noticing. Yes, people will still kill with rifles, but it will be harder for them to accomplish.
If handguns don't go away, which I doubt they will, then the laws for using one to kill need to get tougher. Something has to happen in this country or more and more innocent people are going to loose their lives to handguns.
We need to make a change in this country to stop all the killings and crimes and I believe removing handguns is a place to start. We need to slowly take away these killing toys so that our country is a better and safer place to live. We have enough to worry about with terrorist strikes, we don't need to be worrying about our kids when they are in a college class, or when a loved one goes to work at night.
What are handguns good for? NOTHING! They are simply an extension of the male ego. Times have changed and we need to change too. We see innocent people killed daily by handguns and we do nothing. Sure a new law is being passed that is going to make it "harder" for someone with a history of mental illness to buy a guy, but will that help. When I read that last sentence the word "harder" sticks out like a sore thumb. Instead of making it "harder" let's make it so they can't buy them at all!

Post a CommentI'm in Japan right now, where guns are prohibited, and you know what I hear on the news *every single day*? How night store clerks and random people are dying from stabbings and throat slashings instead of gun shots. Your intentions might be good, but getting rid of guns won't do one single thing. The people who are willing to shoot gas station attendants and convenience store clerks are the ones who not only don't care about the law, but are also the ones who don't bother with getting guns legally anyway. You can ban guns, but that will just stop the good people from having them, not the bad. Criminals in Japan have a hard time getting guns because Japan is an island. The US has Mexico connected to us, so it's a lot harder to keep guns out - there will always be a supply for the criminals. 'Locks keep honest people honest'.
Good article. Guns were useful 200 years ago when the right to bear arms was necessary but now their pointless. Unfortunately politicians are involved with the NRA so they probably will never go away.
