And now let's get another thing straight too; I think Facebook has some very wonderful attributes. As a social platform it allows you to network par excellence.
It allows you to form and join alliances. It allows you to form common interest groups. It allows you to form pages for your business and networking interests. It allows you to share links with your friends. It allows you to play all manner of games and to wile away your hours doing endless silly quizzes. It also allows you to 'sort' your friends into groups (which is very useful). It also helps you to find your long lost family and your long lost friends. And one of the greatest things is that it is easy to use.
Personally I have no experience with its rival, My Space.
Right this moment I am 'at war' with Facebook who disabled my profile because I was trying to email my recently deceased sister's friends to let them know of her death. Well - I am assuming this is why Facebook disabled my account as they won't actually tell me why they disabled me. If I had been arrested by the Police for an actually criminal act I would have known what the charge against me was.
Over four days ago now I followed their steps, as described in their FAQ for taking steps to have this problem dealt with. I have had no response. If I had been arrested for an aforementioned criminal act I would have been able to ring someone who could help me and I would have been able to get a lawyer to defend myself against charges.
I also found (on wiki) the address of the Facebook HQ which listed their phone number.
I rang their number a number of times so that I could press a different extension number each time. I even tried guessing some extension numbers in my attempt to find a 'real human'. Each number I pressed told me to send them an email..
Perhaps some of you have read my previous two articles here about 'my problem' (please open a new browser here and here). I am also trying to rally some support as I am actually prepared to 'sue' them and if you are interested in my progress on this matter please show your support by going down to the bottom of the last page of this article and leaving your comment there. You could also email me through the Associated Content platform here if you would like further details.
Before going any further I'd like now to re-iterate that I think that Facebook are treating myself and my grieving family with great disrespect in view of the recent death of my sister and that instead of disabling my account for trying to email too many people with a pasted email that they should instead have a contingency which facilitates sending out mass mail-outs under such circumstances. Whilst I understand their concern about spammers etc there are some legitimate reasons why innocent users (such as myself) might need to send out mass emails and I wouldn't have minded that I needed to somehow alert them to my intentions.
What I intend to point out in the following series of articles is what I consider to be the 'inhumanity' of Facebook and it's a social platform. I'd like to rally for changes whilst also seeking redress for what I consider is the great harm and unjustified pain that Facebook are currently perpetrating onto our grieving family.
As an aside I might also point out that being that my account is disabled I currently also cannot inform my 234 members and readers who are in my group called "I Read Jaahda's Articles' of my recent articles.
And being that this also impacts upon my income this is another serious issue that needs to be addressed; however I shall write about this in another separate and future article (perhaps called something like 'how facebook can destroy your personal income').
Enough preamble; I now would like to get to the subject matter of this particular article which is about the fact that facebook tells you (that) you should use your real name and have only one profile. Personally I think this is BS - with a big B.
How often do we hear of people getting the sack because their boss read something on their facebook profile? I hope such unfortunate persons are also considering suing facebook. I mean we don't invite our employers into our personal lives to go partying with us so why should we be forced to share every aspect of our lives with them?
I think facebook is 'inhumane' and this inhumanity is what I am trying to get the Facebook platform administrators and developers to address. Their suggestion that people should have only one identity is a prime example of this inhumanity. Just as we compartmentalize our lives in reality so too should we be able to reflect this truth on Facebook.
I mean what on earth does Facebook have to lose if we all have multiple identities?
We are still exposed to their advertisers.
I know many, many people who have multiple identities on Facebook and indeed it can be considered a hallmark of your importance in someone's life that you are befriended on more than one of them. Indeed they could acknowledge and even facilitate this fact of life by allowing members to easily switch between identities from one central account instead of one needing to use multiple email accounts and having a number of separate logins such as that means you have to logout from one ID to be able to login to another.
Lack of this facility, I believe also points out the central inhumanity of the Facebook platform and their use of apparent unnecessary and undue over-reactive paranoia about misuse of their (entirely mis-focused) commercialism.
Remember to scroll down the page to leave your comments. In future I will address and point out some central 'bugs' I have encountered on Facebook. If any reader knows whether my recent behaviours would have elicited such a response in the 'My Space' platform I would also be very interested in hearing from them. I might actually write to them to ask them what many have happened in my recent circumstances if I were using their platform instead.
Keep posted.

Post a CommentTHINGS I HATE ABOUT HERE ARE LEAVING MESSAGES AND TYPING IN TWO WORDS
I had reservations about Facebook. Glad I decided not to start an account. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Airing the problem often helps, hope things get better :)
I hope this reaches a lot of readers.
...I have two f/b accounts, niether of them in my 'real' name.Facebook call themselves a 'social network' and yes it is a wonderful way to contact people and make new aquaintences,,but in this case all I see is the misuse of 'power'.Who is the person that made the decision to delete your account?,,for surely behind every computer and corporation there is man..and who 'owns' the information from that account ie; photos, personal info..it belongs to you and who you choose to share it with,,not those who choose to take it,,f/b prattle about thier strict privacy rules,,seems a little like hypocrisy to me...
I don't know what you will write in the next part - but together with my own reservations, this one is enough for me. I have and will continue to eschew both Facebook and MySpace.
