1. You can create a picture frame. This is one of the most popular uses of popsicle sticks and makes for an easy arts and craft to do with the children. You'll need;
12 popsicle sticks
2 magnets
Glue
Markers, glitter, paint
A picture
To make the picture frame is fairly easy. You just need about 12 popsicle sticks. Once you have the 12 sticks you group them in threes and glue each group of sticks together so that you have four separate pairs of sticks. You then find a picture that you want to place in the frame and place it on a flat surface. Next glue the pairs of sticks in a square surrounding the picture. The sticks will overlap creating a quirky design. Glue magnets onto the back of the popsicle sticks and then decorate them with markers, paint, glitter, and glue.
2. You can use the sticks as a plant support. Often when planting seeds the seeds sprout and grow very tall and tend to lean over. You can place popsicle sticks in the soil in front of the plant to prevent the plant from leaning over and snapping.
3. You can make popsicles using the popsicle sticks. This is very fun to do. You can purchase Tupperware popsicle molds to help you make the popsicles. If you purchase the molds all you have do is pour juice into the mold and then place the stick into the mold and let freeze overnight. You can also use a plastic cup as a mold. If you use a plastic cup the popsicle will come out much wider and thicker. To make popsicles using plastic cups simply pour a half cup of juice into the cup, and place the popsicle inside of the cup and place in freezer overnight.
In additional way to make the popsicles is to use a pie pan and pour the juice inside of the pan. Next, place popsicles all around the pan with the tip of sticks protruding outwards from the pan. Next, place in freezer and in the morning cut the popsicles out with a knife.
4. You can make puppet handles for puppets that you have made out of paper or fabric. The popsicle sticks will suffice as handles so that you can put on a puppet show.
5. You can make Fern's Eiffel tower. If you have a bit of time on your hands you can build the Eiffel tower out of popsicle sticks like Fern did for her science project on the hit television show Arthur.
6. Fruit skewers- You can use popsicle sticks as skewers for fruit. To use the popsicle sticks as skewers chill sliced fruit and place the pieces through the skewer and serve to kids. When using the sticks as skewers be sure that the sticks do not split because you want to prevent pieces of wood from getting into the fruit. Good fruits to use are apples, melons, sliced oranges and strawberries.
