Things to Remember for a Better Marriage

How to Make Your Marriage All it was Supposed to Be

Mike Bauman
A strong, loving marriage is one of the greatest blessings life has to offer. What follows are some ideas that will strengthen your relationship with the person you love.

Step 1
Always treat each other with at least as much courtesy as you would treat a stranger.

Step 2
Put your spouse on a pedestal. This person pledged their life to you. They deserve to be set apart.

Step 3
Perception is reality for your spouse. Remember that even when they are wrong.

Step 4
Be slow to criticize. Most fights and hurt feelings happen over things that, in the grand scheme of things, are simply transient irritations. Make sure your complaint is worth damaging someone you will spend your entire life with.

Step 5
When criticized, consider the "feedback" thoughtfully and with an open mind, regardless of how it was delivered.

Step 6
Learn this. There are no his needs/her needs anymore. You are one, and as such, they are all your needs.

Step 7
You go first. Don't wait for reciprocation. You live up to your end of the bargain. When you do, the other end usually takes care of itself.

Step 8
The grass isn't greener so don't obsess over it. Focus on your "lawn." Nurture it, love it, care for it, and you will have the greenest grass on the block.
