Things to Remember when Interviews Come Around

Tyler Bilbo
It is always hard for anyone having to go through a job search these days. Everyone seems to be laying off and no one seems to want to hire anyone. There will be something eventually and when that day comes, you will have to go through an interview process. During my 15 months of unemployment, I picked up a few tips on interviewing that should help you when your interviews come around.

Dress up as nice as possible for interviews

Interviewers will have papers in front of them and will be marking things down throughout the entire interview process. This is because the interviewer is analyzing everything the interviewee says and does. One of the first things the interviewer will mark is how well dressed the interviewee is. Wearing a coat and tie is the best bet an interviewer has for a high mark. An interviewee making sure his or her clothes match is another big thing. The interviewee needs to have their socks match their pants and their belt matches their shoes.

Be early to your interview

Companies interviewing for a position want an employee that is going to show up for work when they are suppose to. There is no better way for an interviewee to show their timeliness than being early for the interview. Being early shows an interviewee's determination and willingness to do what is needed of them to get the job.

Wear a professional looking watch

The second best way for an interviewee to show their timeliness is for him or her to wear a watch to their interview. Interviewers will notice an interviewee wearing a watch. It is something that shows an interviewee keeps track of the time and is aware of needing to be places at specific times. Interviewees should not just wear whatever watch they can find, it needs to be something that looks professional.

Bring a copy of your resume and references

One important tip for an interview is for the interviewee to remember to bring a copy of his or her resume and references to the interview. Some jobs that are applied to online do not have a section in the application process for the person applying to upload or list their references. Therefore, the interviewer may not be aware of any references the interviewee may or may not have. The resume is a different story. Usually when someone is applying for a job, the application process includes an uploading resume sequence or a part for he or she to fill in blanks based on their resume information. The reason I say to still bring a resume is that a hard copy can still say a lot about an interviewee. If a resume is on some nice resume paper then it shows professionalism, also a hard copy allows an interviewer to see an interviewee's formatting and grammar abilities.
