Things to Remember in November

You Better Watch Out!

David A. Reinstein, LCSW
Veteran's Day née Armistice Day
On November 11th.
The name keeps changing, but it will always mark the eleventh day, eleventh hour in the eleventh month - the day that the Armistice ending WW1 (The "War that will end all wars") was signed and sealed.

Daylight Saving Time Ends
The 1st Sunday in November.
And we will all miss it. DST gets longer every few years... soon it will be year 'round. Began is an attempt to save energy during WW2... But how things began has little bearing on why we continue to do them!

Sharpen your chef's knifes
Before Thanksgiving.
It hurts the dead bird less if the instruments are sharp!

U.S. Marine Corps Day
On November 10th.
Semper Fi.

Black Friday
The day after Thanksgiving.
Followed by white Friday and Orange Saturday. Every day should have its own color.

College applications
Every November.
Whether a likely college candidate or not, every parent seems driven to see that their child files at least one or two of these.

Put up the Christmas Lights.
Every November.
Only if you didn't already do so immediately after the Fourth of July.

All Souls' Day
On November 2nd, following All Saints' Day.
Every soul counts!

All Saints' Day
A feast celebrated on November 1st.
There are now so many of them that thee Church will soon be adding a second day to honor them all.

Buy Nothing Day
The day after Thanksgiving for contrarian consumers.

Thanksgiving
The 4th Thursday in November.
Eat 'till you drop and remember to be thankful for whatever you have.

America Recycles Day
On November 15th.
America may recycle, but my neighbor collects clutter and waste.

Adoption Day
On November 22nd.
It doesn't matter much exactly what you adopt - Just take something (preferably living) home with you and give that new relationship a try. It might even be a human!
Melbourne Cup
On the 1st Tuesday in November.
