It marks the ceremony of leaving the past behind and moving on to the future. The Zozobra is the boogeyman that burns each year in the heart of Santa Fe. The burning of the "El Kookookee," or the boogeyman, as you might know him, is burned as a large effigy as a way to burn the past. Moving on to the future, the locals write what they want to leave behind, and place that on the Zozobra and watch it burn. As it burns, the people celebrate with dancing and drinks. While it is primarily meant for adults, some families with children have attended. There are events earlier in the day that are specifically meant for children with families. It is centrally located in the heart of Santa Fe Plaza, in front of the St. Francis Cathedral. It happens every year on October 28th. Call 505- 660-1965 for details.
