Things to Do in Seattle in the Winter

Reena Das
The average high temperature of Seattle during the winter months ranges between the higher 40s to mid 50s. Locals may see a handful of snow during the winter months; however, for the most part Seattle has a mild and wet climate. Although travel gurus at Fodor's say that the best time to visit the Pacific- Northwest is May through October, travelers have access to plenty of outdoor and indoor activities to partake in during the cold months. So grab an umbrella as you explore the city with great coffee and great music.

Kids' Friendly Attractions in Seattle

Families have access to plenty of indoor fun during the winter months of Seattle. Visit the Children's Museum, a 22,000-sq.ft. destination of pure fun for kids ages 10 months to 10 years. The museum features permanent exhibits such as an imagination studio and global villages highlighting different cultures from around the world. Seattle Aquarium is another family friendly attraction ideal for a winter-month visit. The aquarium hosts a 120,000-gallon Window on Washington Waters exhibit. Highlighting the local Washington marine life, the 20 by 40-foot window displays salmon, rockfish and anemones. In addition, families can enjoy exploring the Pacific coral reef, birds and marine mammals. The interactive NASA kiosks are a must-see new addition to the Seattle aquarium.

The iconic Space Needle is opened everyday. If visiting Seattle during the holidays, be sure to bundle up and experience the traditional New Year's Eve fireworks show. According to SpaceNeedle.com, more than 20,000 people are expected gather below the tower to watch the fireworks shoot across the night sky and an estimated 400,000 people will be able to view the show from surrounding neighborhoods.
