Things to See on Your Holidays in Cocos Island

Cocos Island, popularly called the Island of Sharks is a small holiday destination nestled between Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands. It is the largest uninhabited island on the planet. Save for a few national park rangers, this island is completely uninhabited. The sobriquet "Island of Sharks" turns out to be a very apt one as White tip reef sharks, whale sharks and hammerheads are among the varieties roaming freely here.

There are thick forests populated with native hibiscus and palms trees. In the summer these islands become the perfect sun holiday spot for tourists interested in bathing on one of the numerous beaches and getting a good tan. The island's beaches are well known for their blue tropical waters and the inspiring view of their sunsets.

Another joyful encounter is the Direction Island, a white tropical beach laced with towering palm trees. The island is an ideal place for such activities as swimming, snorkeling and picnicking in the yacht shelter. The landscapes are picturesque from every vantage point. Tourists can chill and lay back in the warm waters of the white sandy beaches and explore the natural beauty of this tropical island.

Another snorkeling site is the amusing Rip, a small sea channel located to the south of the island. The expanse of corals and the varieties of fish makes for easy and enjoyable viewing. Once in the middle of the channel a mildly faster current can effortlessly take one downstream but not to worry, it is seen as completely safe as it is not strong enough to overpower any swimmer. The channel also is home to other fishes such as Napoleon Wrasse, Blue Fin Trevally, Sharks, Barracudas, Angelfish, Butterfly fish and Neon damsels.

At the Gerhard's Canon, one will be able to encounter a major tourist attraction in the form of the famous Kat, the big dugong who emits tunes to every diver. A lot of tourists who have the opportunity to meet her say she is a gem of the sea and an awesome beauty to behold.

At Unicom's Playground and the Towers, there are beautiful and untarnished coral gardens. Lots of rare parrot fish and different species of angel and butterfly fish, surgeon and dart and fire gobies are among the vast array of fishes available to sight-seers. There are beautiful coral growths in the surrounding. Close by is the Cologne Gardens, where awesome Gorgonian fans are found and they grow to about 35 meters. Visiting Cocos Island will be a memorable experience you will never forget.
