Sydney has a vast number of attractions that can entertain for weeks. Most visitors have to settle for sampling a few of the sights and activities.

Facts about Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is described as being a masterpiece of late modern architecture. It is a series of halls, theatres and studios that are set upon a huge terraced platform. The roof is made up of a number of vaulted shells. Guided tours are available for a price but many tourists prefer to wander around the external areas. The Sydney Opera House is surrounded by water on three sides and is situated near Circular Quay.

Visit Taronga Zoo and see Kangaroos

The Taronga Zoo is set near the waterfront and houses more than 2660 animals. These include animals indigenous to Australia such as kangaroos and koalas. The zoo can be accessed by ferry from Circular Quay and has its own cable car that gives an aerial view of the zoo and animals.

Bondi Beach offers Sun and Fun

Bondi Beach is a magnificent stretch of golden sand that attracts hoards of swimmers and surfers. It offers long lazy days in the sun, and an assortment of coffee shops and surf shops supply entertainment along the beach front.

Ride the Sydney Monorail above the City

The Sydney Monorail winds its way through the city centre with regular stops to allow passengers to climb on and off. The route includes Darling Harbour, prime shopping areas and hotels, and takes 15 minutes to complete. A day pass is available for a reasonable rate.

Climb Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge was opened in 1932 and is an impressive steel structure containing 6 million hand-driven rivets. It has eight vehicle lanes, two train lines, a footway and a cycleway. Guided climbs across the arched structure of the bridge are available for the brave. These take between 2.5 to 3.5 hours to complete.

Visit Luna Park Fairground

Luna Park is situated on Sydney Harbour and offers traditional fun for children and families. It is accessible by road or ferry and offers old favourites such as dodgems, roller coasters and a big wheel. There is no entrance fee and rides are charged for individually.

Sydney is a beautiful city with good weather year round. It offers something for everyone and much of the entertainment is set on the waterfront. Visitors have a choice of activities with well known spots including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is best to allow at least a week in Sydney to take advantage of all it has on offer.
