Things to Do when You Are Sick with the Flu

Teresa (Tracey) Stanisha
Just getting by when you have the flu is difficult. You will not be able to work or go places like you normally do because you will not feel well, but there are some things that you can do even when you are really feeling bad. Here are some of things that you can do when the flu has a hold of you.

If you have to be in bed, use the time to catch up on your reading or to write letters that you have been meaning to send. Renting a good movie that you have been wanting to see is also something that you can do if you can't possibly get out of bed.

When you are able to get up and around use your time wisely. Clean out your closet. Because you will not be able to travel anywhere you can take your time and get all the things organized. Take everything out of the closet and go through each piece and discard or give away items that you have not worn in a long time.

If you feel like talking, use the time that you are sick to catch up with your friends on the phone or on the internet. Call those people that you have lost touch with and find out how they are. If you can't talk because your throat hurts, you can use email to find out how they are.

One great thing to do when you are under the weather with the flu is to eat a lot of chicken soup. You can make it from scrap or get the canned kind. You can also just use a plain chicken broth because this will help you to feel a lot better when you are sick. Juices and lots of water also help when you are not feeling well. Keep yourself nourished even if it is difficult to eat. Try different foods to see which ones you feel better with.

Making use of the time when you are not well will be worth it. You can get plenty of things done as long as you are not over exerting yourself. Since the holiday is coming you could use the time to write out Christmas cards or other things like that.

Having the flu, whether the normal variety or the harsher one, will give you the ability to rest and that is what you should do. Getting a lot of sleep during your sickness is a priority. So, rest up, do what you can and then get better. It will last for a while, but little by little you should be up and going again. You can look back on what you accomplished during the time you were sick and realize that some things did get done.
