Tent, Trailer and RV Camping - Fort Mountain State Park offers 70 sites for tent, trailer and RV camping. All with cable hookup for only $24 per night. Each site comes with it's own outdoor grill so that you and your family can enjoy grilling out during your visit. The smells of current grillers is always catching your nostrils when you visit the park in the summer months. If you don't need the cable television hookup then you can tent camp for $10-$11 per night or even $6 per person for the backcountry campsites. Don't forget to check out the Pioneer Campground for $30 per night and the available cottages for $80-$125 per night. All of these locations are surrounded by beautiful scenery and wild life for you to enjoy.
Family Picnics - If you are looking for an easy day outing for your family, then pack that picnic basket and drag out your favorite blanket and head to the Fort Mountain State Park. All through the park you will find picnic tables and grills for you to use, but the park is 3,712 acres of fabulous landscape for you to enjoy. So spread out that picnic blanket and basket lunch where ever the mood hits you and enjoy.
Family Reunions - Every June my husband's family has a big family reunion in the Fort Mountain State Park. They rent one of the 7 Picnic Shelters ($25-$35) and everyone brings a gigantic variety of foods for all of us to enjoy. We love going up there for the family reunion and you can too. There are several picnic tables under the Picnic Shelter and since the shelter has a roof you won't have to be worried if the rain clouds start sneaking in on your fun time.
Swimming - Swimming is one of our favorite activities when we go to the Fort Mountain State Park. The park has a 17 acre lake with a very enjoyable swimming beach. The girls love to play in the sand and then jump in the water. Since Chatsworth, Georgia is no where near the ocean, the park's beach is the next best thing. You can swim all day long for only the price of the park entrance fee. You can't get cheaper than that!
Hiking - If you and your family enjoy hiking and backpacking them the Fort Mountain State Park is the place for you. The park has 14 miles of beautiful hiking trails for everyone to enjoy. So pack those backpacks and head to the mountains for a day of hiking. Don't forget to take along your camera to capture beautiful plants and wildlife.
Biking - Biking is another wonderful activity for you and your family to enjoy this summer at the Fort Mountain State Park. There are 27 miles of bike trails available to you for only a $2 trail fee. That's some cheap, and healthy, fun for the whole family.
Fishing and Paddle Boat Rentals - During the summer months you will be able to rent paddle boats for you to paddle around in the lake. My girls keep begging me to let them do this, but they are still too young for it. You and your family may enjoy these paddle boats. They look fun when I see someone paddling by while we are swimming at the beach. You can also go fishing in the Fort Mountain State Park lake. Both activities are only available seasonally so check with a park ranger or park official before you attempt these activities.
Miniature Golf and Playground - Your children will love the playground and miniature golf course available in the park. These two activities are right in the center of the campsites, picnic area and swimming beach. You will be surrounded with fun and excitement at every turn.
Horseback Riding - Finally, the Fort Mountain State Park offers horseback riding at the Fort Mountain Stables. There is a $25 per hour fee for guided rides, but if you have your own horse to ride there's only a $10 trail fee required. Please make sure you have proof of current negative coggins test before arriving because it is required before you and your horse will be allowed on the horse riding trail.
The Fort Mountain State Park is one of the most beautiful areas for anyone to visit this summer, or anytime of the year. There are several roadside pull-offs for you to stop at and enjoy the mountain views. The price to get into the Fort Mountain State Park is so cheap that any family can enjoy a day of fun together for less than a fast food meal for one person. There's nothing better than nature when you want to enjoy time with your children and still be able to teach them something about the world around them. Come on by and visit this beautiful state park!
