Things to Think About Before Becoming a Substitute Teacher

Articles
Here are some things you can figure out to decide if you are cut out to be a substitute teacher:

1. Determine what your main talents are. Do you honestly get along well with young people? Do they listen to what you have to say? Are you a good speaker? Do people understand what you are trying to teach them?

2. Determine what your main objectives are. Is your goal to make lots of money or is it to live on a base income. Substitute teachers do not get paid very well compared to other occupations.

3. What do you want to do? What kind of work setting do you feel comfortable in? How long do you want to work for? Do you want to work part time or full time. How does what you want to do fit in with the occupation of being a substitute teacher?

4. Is your goal to be a full time teacher? Is being a substitute teacher part of your goal process to become a regular tenured educator?

5. Do you have a complete understanding of what the job of a substitute teacher entails? Do you know the ins and outs of this profession? If not, what do you need to know to feel more confident in your understanding of the subject?

Asking these questions should shed some light on where you need to go and whether being a substitute teacher is right for you.
