Things We Can Learn from Celebrities...

Julie Wenzel
Let's face it, no matter where we turn celebrities are all over the place in the media. We don't have to turn on the radio or watch a movie any more to hear about exactly who they are dating and how they are raising their kids. But there are some things we can take away from all that to remind us that we can live better off than even they do.

Life Lesson #1
Being rich and famous doesn't make you immune to pregnancy. Hey there kids, you can still get pregnant even if you have your own tv show! It doesn't matter who you are, if you don't protect yourself you may have a sweet little bundle of joy in nine months. Babies are cute and soft but are you ready for the costs and stinky diapers? Forget your Friday night dances and spending cash for the latest CD.

It doesn't matter who you are or think you are...you can get pregnant. Think of Briney Spear's little sister, who is only 16. If you don't protect yourself, or stay abstinent, you can get pregnant...period.

Life Lesson #2
Money can't buy happiness. You know how it goes, a celebrity gets married and six months later they are filing for divorce. Some are losing visitation rights to their kids and have to be monitored, some overspent and are losing their homes, and some are going to court. I am sure if you put a little thought to this you can insert the names of the celebrities I am referring to, or even come up with more names than I thought of. Money is bittersweet. It is good to have, and having a lot of money can be fun and nice too. But it can also lead to bad things. Just because you have a lot of money, doesn't mean you'll avoid jail time, or get to keep your kids, or have stable finances for the rest of your life. Having a wad of cash tucked under your bed doesn't mean you will wake up every morning happy. I sometimes wonder how miserable these rich celebrities really are.

Life Lesson #3
We're all human and we make mistakes. We see it all over the place of all the mistakes celebrities make. Well, they are people too. And we should remember that all of us are humans and we all make mistakes. We shouldn't judge one another because we don't always know everything. Even if we think we got the whole story, we may not have. We're human. Mistakes are going to happen, and it's good to realize this and be open to people honestly wanting to fix their mistakes.

Life Lesson #4
It's not always about talent, being a smooth talker, or looking good that will give you fame. There are lots of famous people who have no talent at all, have awful communication and speech skills, and you know you're a 100x better looking than the celebrity. Well, sometimes it's about who you know and knowing how to promote yourself. You may be an awesome song writer and singer and have the looks to boot, but if you don't know anyone to take you there and don't know how to promote yourself, you aren't going to be discovered just sitting in the isolation of your one bedroom apartment without getting out there!

Life Lesson #5
The world is constantly changing. One celebrity may have been the biggest name out there that all the girls wish they could marry someday, but eventually another big name steps in there. Fads change. New technologies come about. Buzz words are created. Things that were once popular suddenly disappear. The world is constantly changing and adapting to those changes are important to survive. An entertainer may have a #1 hit for weeks, and suddenly disappear off the charts, being only known as a one hit wonder.

Next time we hear celebrity news, maybe we can take more from it. I know many of you may roll your eyes saying, "Here we go again, why can't we talk about something else?" But maybe we can take some lessons from them to help improve our own lives.
