While you can spend some time shopping for the latest travel gadget, or sitting at a restaurant where the food usually costs double as it does on the outside, there are some free things that will pass time just as effectively.
My first airport activity applies to any domestic or international airport in the United States and is a free activity. Try people watching for a while as you can pass time seeing how people are dressed, how people act, how families act and you can even view some worldwide culture from various ethnic groups that are trying to get to their travel destination. You can usually determine if people are on a business trip if they are dressed for success in a business suit that many careers demand. There are the vacation travelers that you can try and guess what part of the United States they are travelling to. Perhaps you can try and figure out where international destination travelers are headed to. If you see a couple with Hawaiian shirts on, would it be safe to say that they are headed to Hawaii or another beach destination like Ft. Lauderdale Florida? You can also usually pick out the more wealthy travelers as they probably have nice shoes and designer clothes or perhaps they are even sporting a nice Rolex Submariner watch. I mean, how often does the average person get to see a Rolex in person? People watching is enjoyable when seeing an older couple that looks like they are enjoying retirement together by travelling. If you are in an airport such as LAX in Los Angeles California, or Laguardia Airport in New York City, you may want to keep your eye open for celebrities. Many very famous celebrities use standard air travel to get around. I personally have seen many famous people in both of these airports. Once at LAX, Arnold Schwarzenegger was in front of me in the security line after check in! It is no wonder that many photographers hang out at these two airports for the very good chance that they can photograph a celebrity. At BNA Airport in Nashville TN, you can see famous country stars walking through on a daily basis. I am certain that this fun thing to do will help you pass as much time as you need the next time you are stuck at the airport.
