Things You Will Need when Bringing Home a Baby

If you are a soon to be new mother/father, you are going back and forth wondering what you need before your newborn is home, stop worrying so much. Many new moms/dads go out of their way and mind thinking that there are so many different things they need before the baby comes home. You do not need as many things as you probably think you do.

Below you will find a short list of what you will need to have ready when bringing home your new baby.

1. Infant Carseat - This is the most important thing that you will need when you are bringing home your newborn baby. In most hospitals today you are not even allowed to bring your baby home unless you bring the infant carseat into your room for the nurse to inspect. You can purchase a infant carseat at most major retail stores in your area for under $60.00.

2. Diapers - Before you go out and buy 10 packs of newborn diapers, you will only need only two to three packs at the most. Nothing more. Newborn babies will grow out of those newborn diapers within the first two to three weeks of life. Do not think you need to buy name brand diapers either, generic diapers work just as good as name brand except they are 50% cheaper.

3. Blankets - You will need approximately five receiving blankets when bringing your newborn home. Thin, cotton blankets are perfectly fine and will keep the newborn warm enough while inside the home.

4. Bottles & Formula - If you decide to bottle feed instead of breast feed, you will need at least eight, four ounce bottles. Glass bottles are a lot easier to keep sterilized, unfortunately they are more expensive. Plastic bottles will work just as well if you do not have the extra money to spend. Do not stock up on formula until you know exactly what your newborn will be using. Many times new parents run out and buy a case of formula, wait until your pediatrician tells you what to buy when you are released from the hospital.

5. Clothing - Many new parents are so excited about having a new edition to their family, they run out and buy way to much to soon. Save that for when the baby is six months or older. Babies grow so quickly from the time they are born that you only need a few specific items when they arrive home. Your best bet is to buy five newborn one pieces, five newborn gowns, and five newborn footsies. Once you have been home for a few weeks, you can go out and buy specific items for your new boy/girl.

6. Pacifiers - If you choose to give your infant a pacifier, I recommend that you buy at least five of the same pacifiers. The reason for buying five is that if you lose one, you have the exact same one to give the baby immediately. Babies get very attached to their pacifiers and will more then likely not take a new one other then the one that they have been using.

7. Shampoo, Creams & Powder - You will need, one bottle of tear-less baby shampoo, one bottle of non perfumed baby cream, and either talc powder or regular powder. You do not have to go with name brand products either, generic products work just as good.

8. Towels & Washcloths - Bathing a newborn is not something you need to worry about as much as most people think. The best way to clean a newborn is to actually wash them down with a damp cloth. If you bath a newborn to much you will dry their skin out to much, which will lead to cracking of the skin. Three hooded towel and a five pack of baby washcloths is all you will need.

9. Bassinet - To save money and space, your best bet when putting your newborn down for a nap or to sleep is by having a bassinet. Bassinets use less space and can be put into each room that you are in. They also cost a lot less then a crib when money is a little tight.

Basically that is all you will need when you bring your new born baby home. No need to stress yourself out by worrying about cribs, clothes, and other baby items that are not essential necessities. You will have plenty of time to get all the rest of the items needed in the next couple of months.
