Things Your Young Kids Can Do to Help with Cooking

There Are Lots of Ways that Your Young Children Can Help Out in the Kitchen

Clearly with things like hot ovens, boiling water and sharp knives every aspect of cooking is not for young children. However, there are lots of things that your young child can do to help you out in the kitchen, something that they have probably been wanting to do anyway.

When you make pizza your little helper can be in charge of putting on some or all of the toppings. You can grate the cheese a head of time and while you are doing the dicing of the toppings your child can put the cheese on and add the other toppings as you finish cutting them up. Another food that goes well with pizza is salad and this is something that you can have your young child help with too. While you are cutting up things like the carrots and tomatoes your young child can tare the lettuce into edible size bits. As you are cooking you will find the perfect job to give your children that is both safe and helpful, this way while you are cooking you can be spending time with your children and they will enjoy that they get to help out with the meal. Even the simple task of pouring something into a bowl can be a fun job for a young child.

Another way that your young children can help with dinner is by setting the table. If it is too hard for them to carry all of the plates and such over to the table from the kitchen you can bring everything over first and then they can place each item appropriately around the table. Another thing that they can do to set the table is to bring any condiments that you will be needing for the meal, like salad dressing if you are having salad. Being in charge of getting and folding the napkins is also something that a child can do to help set the table.

Dinner isn't the only meal that you can have your young child help you with. They can help make toast for breakfast and they would love to be the one who is in charge of pouring the chocolate sauce when you have the fun dessert of a sundae. You will probably discover, or already know, that when you ask a young child to help with cooking that they will like it so much that they will often offer to help out with cooking and ask what they can do when you are cooking.
