I was at a grocery store recently where one of the Think 5 bars was on sale. I'd never tried a Think 5 bar before (I think the pale peach wrappers turned me off), but since it was on sale I decided to give it a go.
Lizanne, a former model & the creator of the Think 5 snack, made the Chocolate Covered Red Berry in order to deliver the antioxidants found in fruits & vegetables & make them available in a convenient & "delicious" bar.
I bought the Think 5 Chocolate Covered Red Berry Flavored Bar on sale for a $1, but its regular price is around $1.50. A 2.82 oz bar comes in a peach colored wrapper and it has pictures of 3 different vegetables and 2 fruits on the wrapper, it's a bit tacky.
The Chocolate Covered Red Berry contains the Think 5 blend of apple, carrot, sweet potato, broccoli powder, and spinach leaf, and watercress powders, soy lecithin, pectin, organic alfalfa grass juice powder, and organic spirulina, chlorella, brown rice germ, acerola berry juice powder, beet juice powder, green tea extract, grape seed & skin extract, parsley leaf powder, pea powder, mixed fruit concentrate (peach, pear pineapple, apple, white grape, raspberry), cranberries, chocolate coating (evaporated cane juice, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, milk, soy lecithin, natural vanilla), olive oil, ground flaxseeds, evaporate cane juice, natural flavors, & salt.
Each Think 5 Chocolate Covered Red Berry Bar contains 300 calories & 70 fat calories. The total fat content of is 8g, there are 3g of saturated fat, 0mg of cholesterol, & 220mg of sodium. The total carbohydrates in one Chocolate Covered Red Bar are 55g, 6g of fiber, 40g of sugar, 4g of protein, & 130mg of omega-3.
When I opened this snack I saw that it was chocolate covered but the inside of it looks like a moist dark green, yellow, brown blended mixture, it didn't look that appetizing so I didn't know what to expect.
After tasting the Think 5 bar I found that the chocolate was surprisingly sweet it reminded me of the chocolate coating of Raisinets, only it had a slightly bitter aftertaste. I thought that the filling tasted like a sweet raspberry mixture. It was mostly smooth but I think there were a few pieces of grape skin scattered throughout it that gave it some unanticipated texture.
The red berry filling went well with the chocolate flavor, so the looks of the Chocolate Covered Red Berry bar were deceiving, because overall it was quite good. The Think 5 bar is soft but firm like a candy bar but it is much denser than one. I honestly couldn't eat the whole thing in one sitting because it was so filling.
The only thing I didn't enjoy about this Think 5 bar was the powdery aftertaste, which I guess could be expected since there are so many powders in this bar. The powders were finely blended so it wasn't overwhelming or unbearable, but it was definitely noticeable.
In the end
I really enjoyed the Think 5 Chocolate Covered Red Berry Flavor Bar a lot more than I thought I would. Even though the powdery aftertaste was a little annoying, I still liked the flavors & texture of this bar. It was healthy, but sweet, so I didn't feel like I was depriving myself. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
