So I really enjoy the convenience of munching on a fruit bar, I eat them to give me energy when I'm between meals. So when I saw a Think Fruit Apple Noni Nourish Bar at my local grocer I bought a bar for $1.79 to see how it would taste.
The Apple Noni comes in a lavender wrapper. It contains dates, cashews, apples, raisins, almonds, chicory root fiber, flaxseeds, natural flavors, cinnamon, and noni.
One bar contains 180 calories, and 60 fat calories. It contains 7g of fat, 1g of saturated fat, 0g of cholesterol, and 20mg of sodium. Apple Noni also has 30g of total carbohydrates, 5g of fiber, 20g of sugar and 3g of protein.
Think Fruit claims that the bar harnesses the functional powers of superfruits and marries them with delicious nuts which provide fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. The Think Fruit Apple Noni Nourish is supposed to "deliver the nurturing energy of noni" along with "the beneficial pure nutrients from apples."
The Apple Noni is a soft reddish brown color that looks exactly like fruit that's been mashed into a solid bar. I thought the apples and cinnamon were the standout flavors in this bar but otherwise the date and cashew base were sweet, but mostly bland and uninteresting.
The dates give the Apple Noni bar a really smooth and moist consistency and I felt that the crunchy pieces of hard apple and cashew really didn't work that well with it. Usually a little crunchiness is good, but in this case it was too much of a contrast, one minute I was enjoying the soft texture of the bar and the next minute I was chomping down on pieces of hard apple.
I did feel slightly full after eating this though it's something that can definitely help to tide you over before you're able to eat a full meal. It raised my blood sugar slightly so I did get some energy but I didn't notice a huge surge of energy after eating the Think Fruit bar though.
In the End...
Although it's supposed to be incredibly healthy and it did curb my hunger, the taste of Think Fruit's Apple Noni Nourishing Bar was most important to me. It basically reminded me of eating a chunky cinnamon flavored apple sauce, only without the sauce. I found the flavors to be average, so I probably wouldn't buy the Think Fruit Apple Noni again but I'd be willing to try other Think Fruit flavors. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
