Think Fruit Chocolate Pomegranate Power Fruit Bar Review

The Pen
There are Think Fruit bars on a shelf right next to the entrance of my local grocery store, so I always notice them and one day I decided to buy a flavor I'd never tried called the Chocolate Pomegranate Power for $1.79. It came in a happy looking lavender wrapper with pictures of chocolate and pomegranate kernels on the front.

The makers of Think Fruit state that the bar is all natural and minimally processed, has no sugar added, and is a good source of Omega-3. The wrapper claims that Chocolate Pomegranate Power "delivers the immune supporting power of pomegranates along with the antioxidants from indulgent dark chocolate."

Chocolate Pomegranate Power contains dates, cashews, cranberries, unsweetened chocolate, chicory root fiber, cocoa powder, pectin, flax seeds, natural flavor, and pomegranate. It has 200 calories, 60 fat calories, 7g of fat, 29g of carbohydrates, 5g of fiber, 20g of sugar, 3g of protein, and 130mg of omega-3 oil.

The Think Fruit Bar is a dark brown color. It looks like dates that have been blended with cocoa powder, pieces of cashews and red fruit. It tasted soft and moist and since the chocolate was blended into the bar it wasn't like a candy bar at all.

The bar tasted like cocoa so I got a hint of chocolate flavor without being overwhelmed by it. And since Chocolate Pomegranate Power doesn't have sugar added, the bar's sweetness comes from the fruit so it was mildly sweet and didn't give me a sugar rush like a candy bar would.

When I first ate this bar I didn't look at the ingredients, so I just assumed the red fruits throughout it were from a pomegranate, but when I tasted it the Think Fruit Bar didn't have the strong rich flavor of pomegranate at all. Now I realize that the fruit I was mainly eating were cranberries which gave the bar a sweet and slightly tangy flavor, overall it reminded me of a raspberry flavored chocolate.

But I was disappointed that the name for this Think Fruit bar was misleading. It didn't taste anything like a pomegranate, and pomegranate is the very last ingredient listed on the label so there's not a lot of it in this bar. The bar should've been called Chocolate Cranberry Power but it seems Think Fruit wanted to ride the coattails of the pomegranate's trendy status as a super fruit.

In the End...

I definitely enjoyed The Think Fruit Chocolate Pomegranate Power fruit bar. It was very filling and the cocoa flavors gave me the satisfaction of eating a piece of chocolate without all of the excess sugar. And the rest of the flavors were balanced and very vibrant and naturally sweet tasting. I liked it and will be buying it again. 4 out of 5 stars.
