If you think you know all about artist Norman Rockwell, think again. The Brooklyn Museum is about to put the legendary artist into a whole new light.

Many people dismiss Rockwell easily since he is so quintessentially "white bread." For almost 40 years his wholesome depictions of American life were featured as cover are on The Saturday Evening Post. Quite a few of those covers have become associated with classic American art.

Yes, Norman Rockwell painted what the wholesome Americans wanted to see, but he was also an innovator and interesting. The exhibition called "Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera" at the Brooklyn Museum opening on November 19 will definitely attest to this claim.

It was in the 1930s that Rockwell decided to base his paintings on photographs rather than living models. This allowed him more creativity and freedom to create montages. He could play with form, tone, and color.

The exhibit will run at the Brooklyn Museum from November 19 through April 10, 2011. The Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway at Washington Avenue and is closed on both Mondays and Tuesdays.
