Thinking of Getting a Tiger Cowrie Snail for Your Saltwater Aquarium?

Add a Snail to Your Saltwater Tank

When it comes to saltwater snails there are many different ones to choose from. Snails add a lot of decoration and color to your saltwater tank. They are also great to add to your tank so that you don't have as much work to do. They will also help to keep down the nitrate and nitrite levels. Snails will eat all the uneaten food off of the sand in your aquarium. They are also great for keeping your glass clean as well. The Tiger Cowrie snail is a great snail to add to your aquarium because it stays small and it's easy to care for.

You will need to keep the salinity at around 1.022 to 1.026. You will need to keep the temperature at around 73 to 76 degrees. If you can keep the salinity and temperature at the right level you wont have any problems keeping the snail alive. If you don't have any algae on your rock or glass, the snail will eat uneaten food from the bottom of your fish tank. If there isn't a lot of uneaten food you can also provide your Tiger Cowrie snail with seaweed which you can place on veggie slips in your fish tank. This will make sure that your snail always has something to munch on.

This snail comes in a variety of colors but the most common ones are white with brown speckles. You will usually find them at your local sea shell shop all dried out and being sold as sea shells. It's hard to believe that you can actually purchase one that is live and place it in your saltwater tank. The Tiger Cowrie will often times eat some types of soft coral and mushrooms. In most cases you would be able to keep them apart by placing the coral up on the top level but the Tiger Cowrie is capable of climbing up the live rock and sand.

If you are thinking of medicating your saltwater fish you will want to remove the Tiger Cowrie from your saltwater tank. You will need to remove all of the invertebrates from your saltwater tank before you medicate your fish. You can catch the snail in a bowl and place it into a different aquarium until your water is clear of all medication. You will want to make sure that the salinity and temperature in the small tank is correct by using the water from your saltwater tank, then dumping it out before you place the snail in the regular tank.
