Thinking of Laughing: Mentally Laugh Your Way to Good Health

Leanna Teague
Laughing is a defense the body can use to de-stress by lowering the high cortisol levels that stress causes. Laughter enhances health, happiness and longevity.

Life itself can become depressing with focus on the negativity it can bring. Surroundings, environment and people can influence emotions in such a way that over time the shift to negative can overtake any positive outlook. Therefore causing a sort of tint over the eyes where only the negative is seen.

Smiling can become strained, forced and insincere. With the cheeriness and pleasantries of life gone laughing may become rare even when something funny is in full view. In this enlightened stance of negativity nothing is funny there is no humor in life. People in this phase may be asked, "Don't you have a sense of humor?"

While externally laughter is silenced mental imagining can flick on an internal switch of laughter. Positive internal imagining will take practice to master. In states of drastic negativity or where a person no longer conceives a positive world existing externally or internally in their plane of being it can be complex and an obstacle indeed to overcome.

It can be complicated for a positive person to turn on when faced with negative situations brought on by others or themselves.

For instance, when hurtful words are exchanged between loved ones, friends or strangers it is hard to strive for the positive internally to stay calm and not continue to lash out in anger but to bring peace and see laughter in disagreement.

How can the practice of mental imagining be done?

Thinking Of Laughter

Thinking of laughter can cause laughter to manifest out loud. It can flex the smiling muscles whether laughter rises within the throat or not. Mentally laughing can de-stress the body the same as bellowing out a good hearty laugh.

Laughing within begins with picturing yourself, others or yourself and others laughing.

An excellent way to laugh is to think of something funny. It can be something that happened in the past is happening in the present or is something that is perceived will happen in the future.

The creation of a funny story or joke that the mind has invented can be explored within. Familiar faces can be placed in new settings as new characters that interact with you and are more likely to get a rise of laughter since it can be harder to laugh at some wild creature you've envisioned than at familiarity.
