Thinking Out Loud - Brown and Liberal Delusion
"Here Once the Embattled Farmers Stood, and Fired the Shot Heard Round the World." Ralph Waldo Emerson
And the President said "the Massachusetts election was brought about by "the same thing that swept me into office."
Pelosi is quoted as saying, ""Let's remove all doubt, we will have health care -- one way or another."
It is amazing how much Democrats and liberals do not understand what happened in Massachusetts this past week with the election of Republican Scott Brown.
Let us look and respond to some of these outrageous and ridiculous statements in light of the Brown victory.
First, we must remember that registered Democrats in Massachusetts outstrip Republicans 3 to 1. Then there is the fact that no Republican has been elected to the Senate since 1972. Let's face it, Massachusetts, along with a majority of the northeastern portion of this country, is pretty darn liberal.
So where does this put us in regard to the 52% to 47% victory for Brown?
Brown was not some shining light that drew the masses to him on election day. Neither is Coakley a horrible, slobbering neophyte who can't run a campaign.
No, this election was about sending a message to Washington. It was a call for the government, Republicans and Democrats alike, to stop playing extremes and get down to the business of governing. It was, in large part, a referendum on the massive heath care monstrosity slithering its way into existence. But on a minor, but none the less important, issue, the Brown election was about stopping 'big government.'
With huge spending bills and budgets and bailouts and intrusive legislation and out-of-touch-with-reality politicians making really bad choices for America, Massachusetts voters are crying out "Enough!"
But somehow, the liberals of this country still have not gotten the message. They still think that they aren't doing enough, doing it fast enough or doing it big enough.
The President's call for banks to be penalized for the governments bad mistakes, his determination to push this health care bill forward, his closed door, backroom deal cutting to do whatever it takes to radically alter the very foundation of America is proof positive that he, and those like him in government, are vastly out of touch with reality.
Mitch Stewart also wrote in an email recently, "Our country continues to face the same fundamental challenges it faced yesterday." I would agree. We are faced with a government that ignores the will of the people and intend to grow as big and as fast as it can.
(Mitch also wrote the following statements in that same email.)
"Our health care system still needs reform." Yes, Mitch, but reform does not mean dismantle. It does not mean changing the fundamental foundation, it means fixing the areas of problem.
"Wall Street still needs to be held accountable." When will Washington be held accountable, Mitch? Wall Street is growing strong again, the banks have, for the most part, paid back the American people. But AIG and the auto industry will never pay America back. Penalizing the banks and Wall Street for the governments bad decision in these two areas is like telling a man who has paid off his car that he has to pay more because his neighbor is defaulting on his mortgage.
"We still need to create good jobs." So when is the President going to follow proven methods to create those jobs? 10% and higher unemployment (the real figures are speculated to be about 17 - 22%) is not a good sign he knows what he's doing. Especially since he and 90% of his White House have never run anything short of an election campaign. If business does not have money and if they are facing looming tax burdens and regulatory handcuffs, they will never create new jobs. Private industry creates jobs, government only creates welfare systems. No country ever succeeded by adding MORE government workers. But America has prospered when business could thrive in an environment friendly to it.
"And we still need to continue building a clean energy economy." So where is the energy policy that CREATES incentives for clean energy?? All Washington has been able to offer is legislation that taxes and destroys. All they have been able to give us is an EPA that ignores common sense and declares the air we breathe out to be a pollutant. Where is the incentives for clean coal research, for natural gas development, for nuclear power growth?
Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts was a message from an angry population. It was a warning shot over the bow of the liberal ship of state. It said, we do NOT support this health care lie you call reform legislation. It said, we will not allow you to have some kind of dictatorship hold on the process of government as it was imagined by our founders. It said, Mr. President, Mr. and Madame Speaker, we will "not go gentle into that good night." We will "rage, rage against the dying of the light."
And if they fail to heed the message that came from the proud people who once fired the "shot heard round the word," we will have to fire off a few more volleys come this November.
Agree or disagree, call me a patriot or a malcontent, it makes no difference. So long as I have gotten you thinking for yourself, I will be happy. Because this is just me, Thinking Out Loud.
Have a great day.
Charles
