Thinking Out Loud - the Bum's Rush?
Life is Too Full of Distractions Nowadays. When I was a Kid We Had a Little Emerson Radio and that was It. We Were More Dedicated. We Didn't Have a Choice. - Stan Getz
First and foremost, the quote that was the "shot fired across the bow" which started the whole 'Limbaugh as head of the GOP' was misquoted and maligned.
No, I am not defending Rush Limbaugh. Michael Steele did say it right when he said that Rush is an entertainer. It is what he does. But no one says an entertainer can't pepper his wit with truth. In facft, his 'entertaining' is in the best tradition of what the Liberals and Democrats say is the 'public trust' of the airwaves. They are always screaming about how they want to return to the Fairness Doctrine because they say the commercial radio stations (get that, "commercial") are not serving the public trust by having so many conservative talk shows on the air. (We will get into that debate at another time.) Yet here is Rush Limbaugh, peppering his, yes caustic, show with information that the public (not just the conservatives) need to know about their government.
I, as a conservative Independent citizen of this greta country, do not feel Rush Limbaugh is the head of the Republican Party. And I do not feel he speaks for me a s a conservative. Yet I do feel that listening to the information he passes along, as well as other conservative radio talk show hosts such as Levin, Hannity and Valentine, is important for me to know. This way I can balance them out with people like Press, Oberman and any news outlet other than FOXNews. Because let's face it. I don't care if you are a Liberal, Libretarian, Green, Conservative or apathetic; I don't know anyone who really believes 100% of what the government tells us 100% of the time.
It is not about ideological differences. It is not about Party affiliations. It is about our country, our future, our children and our way of life. More so that at any other time in our history, more people are directly affected by what is going on in the world and what our government and those of other countries are doing. So it is important to know everything about everything that is going on. And we have a right and a responsibility to voice our concerns, disagreements or support as we see fit.
Rush has that right, as well as Press or any other liberal talking head.
As for the quote that everyone so vehemently rails at or apologizes for does not have Rush saying he wants Barrack Obama to fail as President, he does not state that he wants the USA to fail as a country. Here below is the context of the comments and what he actually said. (I only do this as a responsible party to let you know the truth, not gloss over or offer sound bites.)
(Transcript from "Full Transcript: Rush On FOXNews with Sean Hannity")
HANNITY: Coming off record-ratings year for you, but you are a passionate conservative. You've defined conservatives for many people in this country for years. He represents the antithesis in terms of his worldview. So then the question becomes: Do you want him to succeed?
RUSH: Now, this... (turns to camera) I am so glad that he asked me that question. (turns back to Hannity) I am so glad that you asked me this question.
HANNITY: I'm glad too. (chuckles)
RUSH: I'll tell you why. I am hearing many Republicans say that very thing. "Well, we want him to succeed," and prominent Republicans! "Yes, we want him to succeed." They have laid down. They have totally. They're drinking the Kool-Aid, too. They have no guts to stand up for what their beliefs are because they're afraid of criticism. They're afraid of being called racists. They're afraid of not having gotten with the program. Now success can be defined two ways. I said earlier, "I don't know about this guy." I really don't. I've got my suspicions and they're pretty close to convictions, but we're going to have to wait to see what he does. Now if he turns out to be a Reagan, if he adds Reagan to his recipe of FDR and Lincoln --
HANNITY: (laughing)
RUSH: -- and if he does cut some taxes --
HANNITY: Yeah.
RUSH: -- if he does not eliminate the Bush tax cuts, I would call that success. So yes, I would hope he would succeed if he acts like Reagan. But if he's going to do FDR -- if he's going to do The New New Deal all over, which we will call here The Raw Deal -- why would I want him to succeed? Look, he's my president. The fact that he is historic is irrelevant to me now. It matters not at all. If he is going to implement a far-left agenda... Look, I think it's already decided: a $2 trillion in stimulus? The growth of government? I think the intent here is to create as many dependent Americans as possible looking to government for their hope and salvation. If he gets nationalized health care, I mean, it's over, Sean. We're never going to roll that back. That's the end of America as we have known it, because that's then going to set the stage for everything being government owned, operated, or provided. Why would I want that to succeed? I don't believe in that. I know that's not how this country is going to be great in the future; it's not what made this country great. So I shamelessly say, "No! I want him to fail." If his agenda is a far-left collectivism -- some people say socialism -- as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?
Having shown you this and pointed out that Rush Limbaugh is host of a radio show (radio show that you can turn off, dispute or cheer for), it is time for you to make a decision. Like so many other sources of news and entertainment out there, it will have its opponents and its proponents. But what is happening here is that the powers that be want to distract you. They want you to have to defend Rush's remarks or rail against them. They don't want you to be so focused on the economy, the bailouts, the scandals, the war or any of it. They want you to be so distracted that they can get on with the business of doing what they want without having to deal with public discourse in opposition of their plans and goals.
This is the rub. This is wrong. This is not what you should be allowing them to do. Whether you agree with the agenda of the Democratic controlled Congress or President Obama, is not the issue. What matters is that you remain engaged and focused on what is truly important to you, your children and this country.
The question for you here is, will you allow it? Will you be sheep and go along with their distractions? Or will you stand up and let them all know that you are beyond their petty feuds, their stupid games of strategy and misdirection?
It is high time we send (or re-send, depending on your point of view) the message to Washington that we will not stand by for the old 'politics-as-usual' game. We will not allow them to tell us to be fiscally responsible while they spend like the proverbial 'drunken sailor.' (No offense to drunken sailors was implied.)
Shout to the rooftops a huge AMEN or give your biggest raspberry in response. Say I am right on the point and you thank me, or tell me I am all full of water and dismiss my warnings of treachery. Agree or disagree, either way, it makes no difference to me. This is just me, thinking out loud.
Have a great day!

Post a CommentAlthough Rush can be abrasive, I think liberals are attacking guys like him and Hannity do it because they do tell the truth.
I agree with you. I too take a diversified look at everything, so I listen to all and make my own judgement.
