The CEO of possible THE biggest company in the world has held many parties at the company's headquarters. This company is arguably the biggest recipient of public funds. There have been black tie affairs, paid for by the shareholders. Special performances by such notables as Wil.i.am, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Stevie Wonder, have been heard to rock the neighborhood. The big Super Bowl party was a big hit; which he explained as a business expense since he was trying to get some people on board for a HUGE investment he had in mind. There have been dinners where chief executives dined on Maryland crab, Wagyu beef (at $100 a piece), Nantucket scallops and citrus salad.
His wife even used the corporate headquarters while he was away on business to have a "girls night out" party.
Don't get me started on the whole conga line scene that erupted at one of the parties.
This guy also has multiple aircraft where he flies all over the country and the world on the company dime. In fact, he is often the sole occupant (with some support staff along) on many of these flights.
And, after only a few short weeks in office, he was already on a week's vacation with his family. (The previous CEO was often lambasted for taking many such vacations during his tenure in the position.) Just recently he had the audacity to place a playground for his children on the lawn of the corporate headquarters.
Someone forgot to tell this guy the party was over. So let me be the first.
Excuse me, Mr. President, the public should not have to watch as you indulge in spending much of their hard earned money that they hand over to you on such frivolous activities, while they are at home tightening their collective belts.
It should not really surprise us that President Obama thinks this is a wonderful idea. "We are just temporary occupants. This is a place that belongs to the American people and we want to make sure that everybody understands it's open," he said.
If that is the case, when can I come over with my wife, kids and grand-kids, along with some friends and a couple brewskies?
Here is a President who is residing over the biggest deficit budget in the history of the country, asking us to fork over, borrow, print up billions upon billions of dollars to bailout out everyone from the auto makers to the banks to the homeowners who never should have bought in the first place. He is cramming down our collective throats everything from giant risky expenditures, all the while stuffing in with those unpalatable morsels policy plans that will turn a once thriving democratic republic built on the investment of its citizens and corporate investors into a North American version of France, England, Sweden and the rest of the European Union.
We are being asked to subsidize failure and bad practices by irresponsible people who don't want to be held accountable for their bad actions. And we are being told that not to want to do so is unpatriotic. Meanwhile, we are being handed cookies and milk and told it will all be okay once we SPEND OUR WAY OUT OF THIS HORRIBLE CATASTROPHIC CRISIS WE FIND OURSELVES SUDDENLY INHERITED BY THE FORMER ADMINISTRATION!!!
Well excuse me if I don't think that I should have to pay for someone else's mistake. Pardon me if I think that if I am not able to take my wife out for dinner or a movie or buy her something nice, maybe flowers, maybe some small diamond earrings, you should not be able to host these elaborate parties on our dime. (But then again, what should I expect from someone who spent $150 million on his own Inaugural.)
Talk about your fiscal irresponsibility. Not to mention the constant battering of negativity to frighten us into buying into this ruse that is being called an Administration of Hope and Change. And don't even try to ply me with some dribble about how you "inherited" this mess. YOU were in the Senate for the past two years before being elected President. YOU voted on budgets and bills (including the $800 Billion TARP fiasco). YOU were there all along adding PORK and EARMARKS with everyone else. (Mostly everyone. Need I remind you McCain didn't?!)
So, stop all this negative nay-saying (and no, one little speech during prime time where you only used the word "crisis" a few times does not count), stop all this wasteful spending (it is NOT old business if you are the one approving it), cinch up your belt if your going to ask us to cinch up ours, and stop playing 'politics as usual' (since you said you wouldn't).
America deserves better. Our children and grandchildren deserve better.
I know, there will be hate mail. But it has to be said. Agree with me or disagree with me, tell me I am WAY off base or believe I have hit the nail on the head. Either way, it makes no difference. This is just me, thinking out loud.
Have a great day!

Post a CommentI read an article about another CEO who just gave a million dollas a piece from the bailout money to his chief executives, and took some on a lavish trip. It's one thing to be brilliant enough to EARN millions at your job - that's a good thing. But getting money THIS way? Makes me want to throw up.
During the depression, people that had money (because they earned it) were made to feel embarrassed by the fact and even refrained from spending money on what was considered lavish items (new clothes) back then for fear of being rediculed for it. We are seeing this starting to happen now.
