Thinking Out Loud - SEALs Thrown to Wolves

"I Believe that Political Correctness Can Be a Form of Linguistic Fascism, and it Sends Shivers Down the Spine of My Generation Who Went to War Against Fascism." - P D James

What the heck is this country coming to these days? The President and Attorney General want to try a terrorist, a war criminal, in a civilian court, affording him rights he does not deserve nor warrant. At the same time, three Navy SEALs are going to a court martial for giving a terrorist a fat lip.

Let us put this latest news into perspective.

Ahmed Hashim Abed has been tracked since the 2004 killings in Fallujah of several Blackwater guards. In an ambush. As they were transporting supplies for a catering company. I would normally say these men were killed, since it was a warzone. But in this instance, I am going to have to say that these guards were murdered. They were burned, dragged through the streets and two of their bodies were hung from a bridge for the world to see and photograph.

Before you get all, "well that is war, what do you expect" on me, imagine they were your brothers, fathers, sons. Is this what you want to see? Their bodies desecrated and left for the world to gawk at?

All that aside, let us look now at the Navy SEALs who captured this Most Wanted terrorist. Ahmed Hashim Abed was the (alleged) mastermind behind this attack and subsequent actions (which, by the way, violated all codes of conduct for war as agreed upon by the world at large). He was tracked and eventually captured.

The SEALs being charged, Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class Matthew McCabe, Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class Jonathan Keefe and Special Operations Petty Officer First Class Julio Huertas, with dereliction of duty by failing to safeguard a detainee and making false official statements. Petty Officer McCabe is also being charged with assault while Petty Officer Huertas is also being charged with impeding an investigation.

This absolutely smacks of asinine policy coming directly from the White House. The idea that while engaging in the course of capturing a terrorist responsible for such heinous acts during a war that he gets a fat lip would be laughable if it were not resulting in a court martial. And the idea that these men, these heroes, would be thrown to the wolves of political correctness, that the word of an animal such as Ahmed Hashim Abed would be taken as gospel, is deplorable.

So he got a fat lip. So what if he mouthed off and someone slapped him down. Maybe he did. Or maybe he got the fat lip resisting. I can't see a foul creature such as him NOT resisting. How many beat downs and tortures were committed on American and other allied forces personnel? How many heads of civilian and military were lopped off on international television? How many burned bodies were dragged through the streets and left on a macabre display? And one little fat lip gets this much outrage?

I want to urge the military to stop these ridiculous and spurious assaults on the good name of our brave men and women, and drop these charges. I want to demand that the spineless jellyfish we have in Washington (and you know who you are) step in and not only halt this miscarriage of justice by reward these men for keeping safe the front line so they can sleep safe in their beds at night.

But I won't.

These men deserve to have their names cleared. They deserve to be exonerated. My only prayer for these men is that the senior officers who will be convening the court martial take the politics out of it, that they refuse to be a part of the PC BS coming out of DC and that they take the word of such honorable men, who lay their lives on the line every day for the liberties and freedoms America enjoys, over the words of this scum.

This may be just me thinking out loud, but it is important to understand that these men represent a larger issue than simply their careers or their freedom. These men represent the way things will be when dealing with terrorist. Will we be seen a s nation who caters to and cowers before these cowards of the roadside and suicide bombs, murderers of innocent women and children? Or will we be seen as a strong deterrent to their type of forced and warped ideology, to their attempts to manipulate through fear?

You decide.

Try to have a great day.

Charles

Justice was hijacked when these defenders of freedom were charged. Fine post!

Thanks, Charles for being a voice through the air of mushy political correctness you put it... At times, I think it would be good to actually step back and look at the confusion landscape of the United States and its sense of justice... "We have our feet firmly planted in mid-air!" thanks

I have to agree that this situaton is a massive Mongolian ClusterF@ck of a joke. It is wrong and the three SEALs should be deemed innocent of all charges. However, Theres one thing that I believe you all missed... The Three SEALs WANTED to go before the court to tell their story, rather than take the penalty( which would not have been severe). This way, the insanity of the whole case can be revealed in it's entirety. Don't Worry the SEALs will win againsts the charges which were posssibly brought to light by ONE OF THEIR COMMANDING OFFICERS. THE WHITEHOUSE PROBABLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. IT IS A MILITARY MATTER. aND i FEEL THAT IF SOMEHOW THEY WERE PROVEN GUILTY, THE PRES WILL PARDON ALL THREE.

Goodness, Robert, I believe you are right. It should have been "idiot-ology." Thank you. And thank you for your wonderful poem that reminds us all the sacrifice of all who have served and are serving.

I totally agree with what you say in this article except in the last sentence, I think the word you are looking for is "idiot-ology"! My poem Good Night Soldier was written to honor and thank everyone who served in World War II but my thanks extends to everyone who served and is serving our country. God bless you, every one!

Thank you all for your comments. And Marie Anne, thank you for your service. It seems our military is used as cannon fodder of the political sort by today's so-called leaders (none of whom would survive the life these fine men and women endure for the safety of our country and our liberties).

The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. Something is wrong with this country today when I, as a retired Marine, worried more about this type of junk than I was about my son being injured during three tours in Iraq after hearing about the Marines at Pendleton who were hung up and left out to dry. I don't believe we should stoop to 'an eye for an eye', but I don't believe anything these guys did warrants the negative attention and court-martial.

P.S...I twittered this article. It needs vast exposure.

I read about this SEALS case - This is a ridiculous occurrence and a travesty of justice. And you are right - great quote - political correctness is killing us. I'm sure it's OK with you, I'll be linking your article to one I'm doing right now called "Terrorism by Any Other Name" which should be up later today or tomorrow. Thanks for writing on this.
