Third Option: Fight the Swine Flu

Is the Choice Vaccination or Nothing?

Douglas Christian Larsen
Option 1: The prevailing public opinion in regard to swine flu is that vaccination is a magic bullet that protects a potential victim from infection, a paradigm that has been sold and resold by governments and the health-care industry.
Option 2: The secondary opinion is that swine flu-and any flu-is harmless and requires absolutely no action other than the purchase of over-the-counter products that treat flu symptoms.

What is the truth? Is either of these popular opinions correct, or is one at least partially more correct than the other?

The truth is that science at this time does not even fully understand what the flu is-whether it is even alive-let alone how to defeat it, and even doctors and scientists eating at the same table with the vaccine manufacturers will admit-albeit furtively-that there is no effective vaccination against the flu; however, doing nothing is not a viable option, as the flu is dangerous, in any of its guises, it is a serious matter for utmost vigilance. Even the most common influenza virus can end the life of a child.

Influenza, the moving target

If a magic bullet exists to stop influenza in its tracks, it has not been discovered by science, as yet. The influenza virus is comprised of eight segments of ribonucleic acid (RNA) which ensures constant mutation and genetic drift, unlike the more stable deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) composition of a virus such as smallpox, which is a stationary target, easy to hit, and consistently the very same target to aim at. Influenza has proven much more elusive. Scientists are aiming their guns in the air and randomly pulling the trigger, vainly hoping to score a flesh wound on swine flu.

Fighting influenza

Option 3: The paradigm shift that needs to occur in regard to swine flu is that there is no cure, there is no fix, and certainly no magic bullet. When someone is infected with flu, the disease must be addressed, monitored, and overall it must be respected. Because influenza is dangerous. From that first soreness in the shoulders, that first sign of mucus itching in the nose, or that soreness in the throat, the flu has to be met, toe to toe, and dominated. Ultimately, influenza needs to be driven from an unwelcoming host.

There is a way to fight the flu, and fight it naturally, without compromising the immune system-or the pocketbook-and it is a simple angle of attack using natural methods and inexpensive herbs:

Vaporizer - As detailed on the Science Daily website, there is a correlation between humidity and influenza's ability to proliferate. At the first indication of flu, fill the vaporizers and keep them full and steaming until the end of the illness. For the sulfuric content of onions, add freshly chopped bits of onion in the steam cup of the vaporizer, activating a sulfur-steam treatment for the ill.

Antiviral Herbs - Ginger, oregano, onion, garlic and elderberries (Sambucus). These herbs are known antiviral and antibacterial, as well as boosters of the immune system.

Nasal Rinse - The flu generally first attacks via the nasal passages. The Mayo Clinic recommends employing the nasal rinse or nasal irrigation with either the NeilMed Sinus Rinse kit or a Neti pot. Cleanse the mucus membranes with a rush of warm, purified water with sea salt and baking soda. In conjunction with the nasal rinse, gargle with warm salt water. Weaken influenza's toehold in the body.

Sauerkraut - Research in Korea indicates that the lactic-acid bacteria present in both sauerkraut and kimchi actively fights the flu. Add garlic, ginger and onions and make sauerkraut a quadruple threat to influenza.

Hydration and Rest - It is always important to stay hydrated with fresh, pure water and ensure that the proper amount of rest is achieved.

Keep a positive attitude knowing that influenza can be overcome. Fight the good fight and focus on depriving the enemy of a willing victim. Stay healthy and strong, think for yourself and soldier on.
