Meaning of the Third Anniversary's Symbols

Leather is durable, strong and resilient. It has been used as clothing by mankind from the beginning of time; it is also used on a number of other items and for many uses. This should symbolically point to the fact that marriages in their third year have learned to make it through many types of situations.

Crystal has always been known for the way it bounces light into dark areas. Crystal is a symbol of how your love for each other should lighten and bring joy to your home and to others.

Jade has incredible symbolic meaning in China. It is the symbol of a love that endures. When jade is carved into different shapes it also represents other things. A jade rooster symbolizes devotion, a goose symbolizes faithfulness, a butterfly symbolizes love and is the traditional gift from a man to his fiancée, a bamboo stem symbolizes eternal love and happiness.

Green symbolizes abundance, growth, renewal, and health; a very appropriate color for a growing and strengthening marriage.

The Fuchsia flower symbolizes confiding love.

Celebration Ideas

Nature Time

Visit a nearby botanical garden, state park or neighborhood park and enjoy the time together and with nature. As you spend time together talk about the past three years of your marriage and where you see things going in the future. If you are allowed bring along a picnic and your gifts to exchange.

Books, Books and More Books

If you gave your spouse a nice leather bound copy of one of their favorite books spend time reading it together. You could also visit a few bookstores and peruse the interesting titles and information. Find something in one of the books that you and your husband have always wanted to do and go out and do it.

Crystal Dining

Have a nice dinner together using your fancy dishes. Afterward enjoy some time together looking at wedding photos or watching wedding videos.

Movie Night

Spend a night in and rent some Westerns (lots of leather in those), or just enjoy some romantic movies together. Pop some popcorn and get out the candy. If you and your spouse have a soft spot for caramel popcorn, try this easy recipe. Put a stick of margarine, ¾ cup brown sugar and 8 large marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for two and a half minutes. Remove and stir until the marshmallows are mixed in. Microwave for another 30 seconds then pour over a bag of popped popcorn.
