Thirsty

Nathan Ross
I was walking down a desert road when I met a man.
The landscape shone brighter than the ball of fire overhead,
The same color as the man's weathered skin.

"The Burning One has you now," the man said.

He grabbed at me but missed.
I jumped and ran but could not get around this man.

"The Burning One has you now," the man said.

I fell, but never did the tanned man catch me.
I struggled and struggled and told him to stay away.
Never once the man catch me.

I woke later.
Parched and dizzy, my legs barely obeyed my commands.
I remembered my water, on that lonely desert road.
After taking a drink, the harsh scorching wind whispered to me.

"I am the Burning One, and I almost had you."
