Thirtieth Birthday Party Ideas

Rebecca Hayes
Themed parties are usually the easiest to put together and the most fun to attend. Following are a few theme ideas that would work perfectly for a thirtieth birthday party.

Over-the-Hill Party

Decorations for over-the-hill parties usually are black. Send out invitations in black cardstock with white writing on them. Encourage guests to bring gifts that go along with staying young, such as lotions, exercise equipment etc.

Thirty Years Ago Theme

Plan the party to represent trends and parties from thirty years ago. Have a trivia game to see if people can answer questions about thirty years ago. Play clips from popular movies. Ask guests to dress up from that era. Compile a CD with popular songs from thirty years ago and have it playing in the background. Need ideas? The history channel website is a great place to start: www.history.com. You can also look up the year and should find plenty of information to help you plan the theme.

1930's Party

Love historical themed parties? Then celebrate turning thirty with a party from the thirties. The 1930's were the golden age of radio, comics, and Hollywood. You could do a Hollywood glam theme. Ask guests to come dressed up as if they were going to the Oscars. Put pictures of the birthday boy/girl on gold stars and hang them in the room. Flight was also something that fascinated people during the 30's. Amelia Earhart flies solo across the ocean and the Empire State building was built. Parlor games and board games were extremely popular, so include charades and Pictionary on your agenda. The 1930's were also a time when the mystery novel gained major popularity. You could have a murder mystery dinner party. There are premade murder mystery parties that can be bought or you can make it like a giant game of clue where each guest has one piece of the puzzle and guests must talk to each other to try and get information about who the murderer is.

Thirty Party

Have the theme simply be the number thirty. Send out cards with then number 30 on them. Encourage guests to get gifts that cost thirty quarters ($7.50) or 30 of a certain item (i.e. thirty pens, cards etc.). Talk to the birthday boy/girl and ask them for thirty things they have done that they doubt very many people know. Ask each guest for five things they've done. List everyone's items on a sheet of paper then have guests try to figure out the birthday boy/girl's thirty things by asking other guests yes or no questions.
