I was always taught that I was very special. No, I wasn't better than anybody but I wasn't inferior to anyone either. I was taught to respect and care for my fellow man no matter what his race was. I was taught and shown how to be a responsible citizen. Hard work was expected in school. It's amazing the lessons that stay with you throughout life.
Of course I had no say in who my parents would be, my ancestry or the color of my skin. But I am who I am. And I wholeheartedly embrace my heritage. More importantly I cherish who I am in Jesus-a daughter of the King. And you know, that makes me royalty. Now that's worth celebrating.
This is who I am,
African-American
Proud of heritage.

Post a CommentWell done. There's only one race, Lee; the human race.
Well done, Lee.
Great! I love how haiku are short and to-the-point.
Absolutely!
Amen Lee.
Well done.
and your article made me think of so many of us, of all colors, singing "I'm a Child of the King," and knowing how special it made each one of us. Great declaration of love :)
It's important to have a balance, to be not too boastful, but confident and proud of your heritage without putting others down.
I am another product of the Creator; not different from anyone else. According to me, that is the ultimate truth, which we tend to overlook in this world. If we see ourselves differently, we deny the Creator! I love your work, Lee - siva
We knew this already from your excellent work.
