This Angel's Flight

Lori Duncan

On lofty clouds serenely sits,
this angel soft and fair
his humble form is sweet and mild
and wind wafts through his hair.

To earth this angel slowly glides
in gentle grace he bounds
no one can hear him as he lights
and softly touches ground.

His noble wings are widely spread
and barely makes a sound
this angel's touch and comfort song
the newborn child surround.

A feather 'cross the troubled brow
brings mild and peaceful sleep
to lofty clouds this angel fair
returns without a peep.

And when the child grows tired and old
this angel's last flight brings
his noble wings he does enfold
that comfort song he sings.

So as that one leaves earth behind
while hosts prepare and wait
his Savior sits with open arms
at last sees Heaven's gate.
