This Crazy World

Terra Husser Farrell
We are all slaves
working for something.
Half of its taken
and given to those who dont need it.
The ones that need it cant get it.
People who just need that one chance cant find it
we search for a glimmer of hope beyond our own means
to find that the world isnt as great as it seems

We pay taxes on our taxes
we pay to be able to sleep
we work to be able to feel somethig beside the cold concrete.
We watch as the world around us goes astray
the powerfull ones take more and more everyday.

We wonder if the money its took us so long to make
will be stolen by someone we never new was a fake.
We lose our houses to gready bankers because
they wont give us a chance.

Everything we worked for is gone in a glance.
We hope and pray and hear "its time for a change"
but more of the same bullshit day after day.
Finally we realize that we arent meant to be free
we are slaves to the ones who say that I am me.

Our children have nothing to look forward to in the future
except a glimmer of hope
that maybe someday we will be more then broke.
Our streets are littered with trash,
our hearts littered with pain.

All for what we worked so hard for to go down the drain
mothers pawn their jewlrey to put dinner on the table
lose sight of anything good because they are just not able
not able to see a glimmer of hope.
The walls closing in on them and they just can not cope.

Cope with their lives being bought and sold.
To the highest bidder as their house is forclosed.
We sit in a cheap weekly hotel and wonder if the world
has just gone to hell.
And then realize that we are just slaves and we are for sale.

I love the imagery and "real" language in this. This is a really well-crafted piece of poetry. Bravo! Bravo!

I dunno about the slave part but the poem sure reflects America's bad economic situation in the news.
