Today is the Feast of the Most Precious Blood, a day to celebrate the blood that was shed during Christ's Passion and when he went back into his body during his Resurrection.

July 1st, 1945

This is the date that Winston Churchill declared the start of World War III. Both British forces and U.S. forces were to meet up with the Russian forces in Poland with a two pronged attack, and would use 47 divisions to do so. Both Napoleon and Hitler had failed to accomplish this.

July 1st, 1946

Bikini Atoll was the site for the first Atomic Bomb testing. The type of bomb used was a Nagasaki-type implosion bomb.

July 1st, 1951

A spontaneous combustion occurred when Mary Resser took a couple of sleeping pills, set down and lit up a cigarette. This happened on this day in St. Petersburg, Florida.

July 1st, 1991

The star of Little House on the Prairie and I was a Teenage Werewolf, Michael Landon, dies. Landon was diagnosed just three months prior with pancreatic cancer.

July 1st, 1993

The SAn Francisco law offices of Pettit & Martin suffers a massacre when Gian Luigi Ferri comes into the building armed with two fully-automatic TEC-DC9's and a .45 semiautomatic pistol. Within four minutes in the office at 101 California street, Ferri killed 8 people, wounded 6 others, and then killed himself. The victims' families quickly filed lawsuits against the manufacturer of the TEC-9, Intratec, and also against the owner of the pawn shop , located in Las Vegas, where Ferri bought them at.

And finally, July 1st, 1996

Margeaux Hemingway, the famous California actress, was found dead in her apartment. The Santa Monica resident apparently overdosed on the drug Phenobarbital.
