This Fall There Are 6 Great Reality Television Shows to Look Forward To!

An Overview of My Favorite Reality Shows Starting This Month!

Suzanne Rose
If you are into Reality TV, or just looking to get into it, there are plenty of things coming out this fall. Wondering what's so great about Reality TV? Then read my article Reality Television - Why am I so Obsessed to learn more before you continue with this one. I'm sure there are dozens of Reality shows coming out this season, but here are the 6 most anticipated reality shows in my opinion! (in order by date of premiere)

Sept 18, 2007 - 8:00 PM EST: Beauty and the Geek: 4th Season
The Premise: The show is a social experiment created by Ashton Kutcher where 8 beautiful people are paired with 8 "geeks" and sent off to partner together for the remainder of the show. The chosen beauties are always relatively dim, and the chosen geeks are always social outcasts. Can these beauties work together with these geeks in order to become the ultimate couple?

Why I like it: This show is more than your average reality tv. Sure it all comes down to competition, but this show has a much deeper impact. It seeks to show that these "dumb" beauties can actually learn many things from fixing cars to fixing computers and other things they could not do before. I find the geeks to be more fun to watch as the show transforms them by giving them makeovers, teaching them to meet girls, and greatly improves their social life! A girl you may have thought was a spoiled brat may turn out to be a great person by the end of the show. A geek who never even had a date in his life may end up with the confidence, the skills, and even the looks to put himself out there. In addition to watching the couples grow and learn, I also enjoy watching the challenges and guessing at the questions to see how well I would do. Could you pass these test? Check it out and see if you are smart as a geek, or dumber than a beauty!

What's new this year? The show is keeping the new twist a secret... but not really. Traditionally beauties were women and geeks were guys, however this season they will be mixing it up! One couple will be a hot/dumb guy, and a geeky/smart girl! Will these 2 work together better than all the other beauties and geeks? Or will they have a completely different experience? I am excited to see this new twist.

Sept 19, 2007 - 8:00 PM EST: America's Next Top Model: 9th Season
The Premise: 13 Wanna-be-Models face off in this competition hosted by Tyra Banks. Each week a model is kicked with the final winner getting a cover girl contract as well as a few other great prizes. Basically, the winner gets her dream come true!

Why I like it: This is way more than just a modeling show. For one thing, you get to see the girls as they LIVE together and WORK together all at the same time. The conflicts that come out, well, they are the most fun part! Then when the girls go to their challenges and photo shoots, you get to see the most amazing scenes, crazy poses they are asked to do, and sometimes insane tasks they have to complete! Picture a girl modeling while standing over an alligator, can she keep it together? How about doing a runway walk on a dining table while the guests sit and eat, could you handle it? This show is exciting because it takes modeling to the extreme! They are not asked to stand and pose, they are asked to take on characters, do fun and crazy things, and really push the limits. Even though I don't want to be a model, I have still learned from this show as they are constantly teaching the girls how to take good pictures, and how to put off a good personality. Whether you want to model or not, this show is a fun watch.

WARNING: This show is not for those who can't take some controversy.

What's new this year? To be honest, this season sounds exactly like the rest... but that is fine with me. Even if you've seen one of the seasons before, I have seem most all of them and I know that the drama is still exciting every year. You never know what the challenges or photo shoots will be like which really keeps me interested. Check it out!!

Sept 19, 2007 - 9:00 PM EST: Kitchen Nightmares: 1st Season
The Premise: If you've seen Hell's Kitchen, it's time for a spin off! Gordon Ramsay, the host and star of Hell's Kitchen, will now be going to kitchens that are just a complete mess. His job? To turn them from almost bankrupt into a profitable business!

Why I THINK I'll like it: Having not seen the show, I can not guarantee I will like it, but I'm feeling very confident I will. I liked Ramsay's harsh behavior and loud-mouth antics, even if others did not. Most of all, I want to see if he can do it! Can he turn these businesses around? Or will he just tick everyone off? We'll find out next week!

What's new this year? The entire show is new! I'll be checking it out, will you?

Sept 20, 2007 - 8:00 PM EST: Survivor: China: 15th Season
The Premise: Survivor takes 16 contestants from a range of age groups and lifestyles and puts them into a remote area where they are forced to survive with little-to-no amenities. Living outside day after day, forced to make their own shelter, and forced to fend for themselves, it is far from a show I would ever want to be on. To top it off, the contestants must work as teams AND vote off people one by one until the last remaining person is named as the Survivor! Why would people go through all this? They all have their individual reasons, but the number 1 pull that gets people on this show is the $1 million dollar prize that comes to the winner.

Why I like it: Like I said, it's something I would never want to do, but I do love to watch it! Seeing how these people make due in these harsh conditions is not only interesting, but exciting as well. The teams compete in challenges every episode to win prizes (food, matches, blankets) and to win immunity for the week. Survivor is the ultimate in twists and most the time we cannot guess what will happen as the game can change at any minute. Bonds are formed between some people while other people are outcasts, then suddenly the outcasts becomes everyone's friend! What will happen next? That's the only reason I get addicted to this show... I must always know what happens next!!

What's new this year? For the first time, Survivor is going to China, and they will not stop bragging about it! I guess it's a big deal. In the past they have gone mostly to islands but they seem to think the ancient south central province of Jiang Xi is the most dangerous area of all. I will have to wait and see this for myself, but even before seeing it I know I wouldn't want to go there! If you haven't seen this show yet, then what are you waiting for! Just think, with 14 seasons under their belt, they must be doing something right. Time for you to DVR this season!

Sept 24, 2007 - 9:30 PM EST: The Bachelor: 11th Season
The Premise: 1 guy, 25 lovely ladies... will he find true love? Each episode a number of ladies are eliminated as our hunky bachelor narrows down the playing field in hopes of finding the girl of his dreams. The girls live together in an amazing house usually set in an dream-like area that feels like the ultimate romantic vacation. The bachelor is always a highly successful and very handsome guy, a dream guy for these lonely girls! Hearts will be broken, but will love be found?

Why I like it: This is a game of love, what could be more full of drama then that? These girls are not only dating the same guy, but they are also living together - fights are sure to ensue. As the bachelor starts to pick favorites, you will too. Will the bachelor end up with the girl you picked for him? Or will he pick the one you hate? It's fun to watch the game of love as it plays out week to week.

What's new this year? Apparently this guy is the "sexiest bachelor ever" but I will have to wait and see about that!

Sept 30, 2007 - 7:00 PM EST: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: 5th Season
The Premise: It's simple. A group of designers and construction workers gather teams to fix up houses that are in complete disarray. The reason? All the houses they fix are for people who have been through really hard times and lots of bad luck. People who have recently lost husbands, wives, fathers, mothers. People who have had house fires, freak accidents, and other things. These people truely deserve it, and Extreme Makeover gives them the best house they could ever want.

Why I like it: It is a wonderfully touching show to watch. My favorite part is seeing the families reactions to all the amazing things they find in their brand new house. My second favorite part is, of course, the designing! I love watching all the ideas the designers have and seeing them go from a drawing to reality. I learn a lot of design tips and tricks and end up wanting to try all the new things right away. So you get the best of both worlds - a touching story, and lots of exciting new home improvement tips!

What's new this year? I haven't heard of anything new or different coming this season, but I am still excited to watch. I've enjoyed every episode that I've seen so far. This is the type of show where you don't have to watch every episode, just watch as time permits. There is no continuity as each episode focuses on a different story and a different house.

Sept 23, 2007 - 8:00 PM EST: The Simpsons - OK, ok, I know this isn't Reality TV but it still remains to be my favorite shows, so I just had to throw it on the end. If you've missed the first 18 seasons, now is your chance to fall in love with America's favorite animated family! Of course, after that you have to stay tuned for Family Guy. Animated TV is a great break from Reality, so tune into these shows as well. Even if you don't have time to sit and watch all of these shows, I urge you to DVR them so you can fast forward through them. You will probably find at least one that you get addicted to! Enjoy!!

NOTE: DVRing Reality TV is important because they often change times/days due to other TV events.
