This Fascination We Have with Kim Kardashian is A Lot to Do About Nothing Really

What Do We Really Know About Kim Kardashian, What Will We Ever Know?

You're no one in Hollywood unless you can become enormously successful on a minimal amount of effort. American culture demands that someone in the entertainment industry exists to satisfy our insecurities and show us that being beautiful in and of itself is a valuable asset to all forms of mass media. To most people Kim Kardashian is yet another person to have used a sex tape and a reality show that really isn't about her at all to gain her success and popularity in the fine tradition of Paris Hilton. There are many parallels; Hilton is a hotel heiress and already had money before her popularity and was also a model when no one knew about her, Kardashian has O.J. Simpson as a Godfather of which was actually represented by her father during his infamous murder trial.

To her own credit though Kim Kardashian has evolved as a highly successful business woman and an intriguing figure in the entertainment world. Unlike Paris Hilton, who has yet to show us any real acting or singing talent, Kardashian is known for a small clothing shop in L.A. Kardashian seems to have embraced other cultures and have an appreciation for that beyond her small Hollywood circle.

People tend to forget that Kardashian is Armenian; the country used to be a part of the former Soviet Union and lies east of Turkey. The irony of her reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, is that it would appear to be about everyone else in the Kardashian family but Kim. It is very much in step with Keyshia Cole's reality show,The Way It Is, with the exception that the show actually makes the family look good and is not something Kim might regret 5 years from now. The last time I was watching the show we got to see the antics of Kim's sister Khloe and her mother, both of who seem to be a lot more interesting than Kim is.

Women either hate Kim outright or are intrigued by her beauty. Some probably would not mind so much if she wasn't into Black men, personally I think that the fact that someone from a country that close to Russia digs us and thinks we're cool might give some hope; I think the last time we saw this was when Heidi Klum and Seal hooked up. It intrigues me to think that people have an open mind these days whereas they would not have 20 years ago. Kim has posed for Playboy and undergone all of the other rites of passage for a striking beauty trying to make their way in high society. These days she is busy shopping for an engagement ring hoping that her latest beau will marry her, I hope he does and makes an honest woman out of her. The way I see it she got a cool $5 million off of what was supposed to be a private moment between her and Ray J, which isn't bad at all.

These women obviously know something that the rest of us don't. Paris Hilton continues to make even more money with each passing year and Kim has people talking about Ray J when they normally wouldn't. The fact that we still fall for the sex tape gimmick, followed up by a curiously entertaining reality show that doesn't really tell us anything at all about the personality says a lot about us as a celebrity obsessed culture. I am just thankful that reality television took off when it did, and not back in the eighties when this whole "tape" thing started taking off. Even if Kim's star does fade though there is more to come of the Kardashians; her sisters have a new series Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, which will debut in August on the same network that took a chance on Kim. The Kardashians may be with us for a lot longer than any of us ever could have imagined ...
