This Father's Day

This Father's Day let us not forget...
the kids without dads
the fun they never had
times they never shared
'cause they had no father that cared.

This Father's Day let us not forget...
the little babies tears
and worried mothers fears
because daddy's never home
they've no father's love to call their own

This Father's Day let us not forget...
what it means to be a man
to hold child's hand within your hand
to have that life depend on you
but you're never within view

You know it took both you and she
To create this beautiful new baby
So why'd you so quickly run away
Why didn't you, why didn't you, why didn't you stay?

This Father's Day let us not forget...
this child did not ask to be
it could not even see
the future it would have
'cause it didn't know their dad

This Father's Day let us not forget...
just why we celebrate
a man that is great
he knows who he is
and take care of what's his
he relies on no one
to look after his daughter or son
he stands tall and looks proud
can pick his child from out of the crowd
he a father, pop or dad
the figure I never had
but I grew up nonetheless
doing all - my very best
to see no one else bares the shame
of knowing nothing but his name

Any male can be a father
It really doesn't take much to be a bother
To be a dad is so unique
For no glory do they seek

They only care the child they made
Has a greater life and makes the grade
To have all they ever need
A lot of love, and someone to believe

To believe in who they are
Who they'll be and just how far
Their dreams will lead them to
Are you this man? Is this man you?

This Father's Day let us not forget...
you're not just here to procreate
you're meant to be somebody great
a mentor, friend, a leader strong
but a "deadbeat dad" - no sir, you're wrong

Today we celebrate Father's Day
Let's do it in the right way
Instead of hiding and running wild
Take the time to embrace your child

And maybe, next year, you'll hear them say
"We love you, dad...HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!"
