This is My First Heartbreak of Being a Mother

Kelly Fleming
The birth of my second son brought out a lot of chaos for my Family, especially my first son Brandon. He went through a lot of cat scans, needles and everything Dr. related. He had a cyst on the roof of his mouth, and the Doctors' were afraid that brain matter was coming down.

He was 4 years old at the time and when we returned home after they released him from surgery he and I decided to take a nap this was August of 2008. After a couple of hours I woke up and had gone into labor, I was 9 months pregnant. My Mother had just flown in from out of state for my Son's surgery.

I cried straight all the way to the hospital. I wanted to be there for him so bad, thank goodness for good friends. A friend of mine stayed up with him all night through the pain, vomiting and not sleeping. My Husband brought him to see me 3 days later in the hospital and he would not talk to me and wanted nothing to do with his brother at all. This lasted for two months; he would not even acknowledge his brother.

To this day it still breaks my heart that I could not be there for Brandon; writing this article makes me cry. I am very thankful for wonderful Family and Friends. Brandon is doing great now and loves his little brother.
