How to Make Homemade Face Paint
At Kids Party Paradise, there are a few different recipes for homemade face paint. After some experimentation and thoughts on different options for costumes, it appears that the first recipe listed is the best one. This homemade face paint seems to have the best staying power, and you have an endless amount of color choices. How to make face paint with this particular recipe:
1 tsp. Cornstarch
½ tsp. Cold cream
½ tsp. Water
food coloring
First you will need to mix together the cornstarch and the cold cream until it is a nice creamy texture. Then you will add the water and stir. When it comes to color, as I said, the options are endless. This is also a great lesson for your children about colors and how mixing one primary color with another, they will get a secondary color. An easy example of this would be blue plus yellow equals green. In order to control the colors better, add only one drop at a time.
Using Face Paint in Some Life Lessons
There are plenty of costumes that can easily be made with materials found around the home. You may want to add some finishing touches bought from the store, but as a whole, most of these costumes can come mostly from home. This is good for a few reasons. You will be teaching your child to go "green" by using items that may otherwise be thrown away. It is also good to show them that since the costume will most likely only be worn once, it is wasteful to purchase a costume at he store, only to end up being thrown away. This can also be a good lesson on saving money. Show your child how to cut back on other unnecessary items bought in the store. Do this during the whole year, and make Halloween the final "savings". Tell your child you will match whatever they save through the year, ending with the Halloween costume and take that money and split it into third. One third in their very own bank account, one third in an account for after "18" savings, and then let them pick out a special gift for themselves with the last one third.
